I just got news our new plan for promoting breast feeding through my Ob's office is going to be implemented! Several medical assistants and I were talking with my Ob and he agreed that we needed to encourage women who needed assistance breast feeding. We already offer referrals to classes and free lactation consultations at a local hospital and we joined forces with this hospital for women who qualify for free breast pumps. (My Ob is not affiliated with any hospital, he and his wife are a private practice.) The pumps will be donated through funds from some private donors and the hospital's lactation shop as well as anyone who wants to donate to the fund. We have not worked out all the "kinks" yet but I am so glad the plan went through. I am just tired of hearing women come in to our clinic saying "Do you have any formula samples?" And of course we say no and a lot of them say they had to quit because they did not have an electric breast pump to use at work, or keep supply up, etc. NOW, we can tell them we can help them!
