Update from State Medical Licensing Board from over a year ago... - Page 2

Well written!

I hope it reopens the case. If not, be sure to share it with the lawyers that you may have already contacted. It may well open their eyes to the real issue and the grounds for a case.

It is just mindboggling that care against the accepted medical guidelines and against the direction of the parents, coupled with out right lying to the parents, can be glossed over by the board so easily. Sure makes it sound lie the baord is nothing more than a front to protect doctors, rather than an oversight body to protect patients from rogue/incompetent doctors.

Best wishes on a better outcome.

Have you filed a complaint with the joint commission?

http://www.jointcommission.org/GeneralPublic/Complaint/

This will result in a slap on the wrist (or less) but is worth doing to remind them you still exist.

Also, have you spoken with Mr. Svoboda at ARCLAW?

Have you had your son's genitalia examined by a "foreskin friendly" urologist to document the damage ?

Sadly, PA is a pretty backward state and the doctor can get away with butchery pretty easily these days. Suing in 14 years or so might give a better chance.

Thats an awsome letter, good job! I also wanted to applaud you for not letting this go-there is no way I could let it go either.

IF you arnt able to sue now, and I hope you can honestly, then yes, definately let your son know and encourage him to. My dh was circ'd in 1981 against his parents wishes and they didnt tell him until it was too late-I think it varies from state to state but here they only give you a year from your 18th birthday. And of course since he hadnt even experienced sex yet, he had no clue he had any issues either. Grrr.

It sounds like a terrible adhesion but...there is still a small posibility that it will release on its own as he gets older. He suffered a lot of trauma down there, it might be that his penis was very aggressive at trying to repair itself and the adheasions will break down over time.

How sad is it that just because your state is circ friendly, it means its ok to harm a child like that? I cant imagine the hospital(s) here letting that go in the least (I live in Washington state)-especially the childrens hospital, they are so cautious not to do anything to intact boys. Its just so stupid.

Keep up the fight mama, its worth it!

Yes, the Joint Commission is also one of the organizations I originally wrote to ....
(I think I covered it all.. seriously, without any exaggeration whatsoever.. I sent out OVER 150 letters via traditional mail & tons of emails...)

Anyhow, the Joint Commission sent a letter a while back that said they contacted the facility for their written response...their response was received, accepted and the incident status is closed...

It goes on to say that their current Public Information Policy precludes them from providing me with the specific results of any complaint investigation.

(WHAT? WHY?)

anyway.. thought I'd share.. I assumed the State Medical Licensing Board would be the route to pursue...

Thank you!

Yes, I have everything WELL DOCUMENTED and copied in a safe deposit box
...
It will be no secret, once Liam is older, what that doctor did to him.
I think he will have a much better chance, hoping that in the next 15 years, attitudes in PA will change about this issue, to effectively sue the pants right off of this guy.

BTW, I have triple checked... Liam will have two (2) years past his 18th birthday to sue (part of his college fund...)...

I will keep all abreast on the response (if I get one) from the State...
Thank you to all of you again! You have all been a pillar of support for my family and myself especially...
and I have learned so much from all of you!!!!!!!

Arg, I hate PA so much. Too busy witch-hunting midwives to clean their own noses. :

Have you invoked the Freedom of Information Act? I'm not sure of the details or how it applies to this situation, but it's a federal law that says that companies and organizations must furnish information when asked (by anyone). Look into it.

ETA: after looking it up, the act only applies to gov't agencies. Are you dealing with the gov't at all?
