Anyone else have Wii Fit?

Hi! We just got Wii Fit, and I have to say it is kicking my butt and it's a great deal of fun!

Is anyone else using it for exercise? And if so, are you seeing any results?

Thanks!

I tried the Yoga at friend's. I'm getting one for Xmas. That is, if I can wait that long...

I know ... we were going to wait to get it, but we decided it was either Wii Fit or an elliptical machine. Strangely enough, the Wii plus Wii Fit was still more affordable when we started looking into how much a really sturdy elliptical was.

I love it! Between the yoga, balance exercises, strength training, and aerobic workouts, there's actually a lot to do. And it has a great body test that you can do daily that charts your progress for you. And creating your Mii is really fun, too.

Okay, I'll stop ... I'm gonna make you run out and buy one ...

It seems entirely possible to get a well-rounded workout from this. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience, as I have only been doing it for about a week.

Thanks!
K

I have had Wii Fit from the day it came out. It's been a few months and I've lost about 18 pounds, but not JUST from WF. I also play In the Groove (version of Dance Dance Revolution) and bike/walk occasionally. ITG provides an amazing aerobic workout (in the comfort of my air conditioned home). I've also been really cutting back on dairy/desserts/junk in general. I'd have to say that one of the best parts about WF is its monitoring system (goal setting, graph, etc.). I was so excited the day that it proclaimed me "normal" instead of saying "That's overweight," in its disgusted tone. The aerobics are not very challenging to me so I don't do that part much anymore. I do still use strength training and yoga frequently because a lot of those exercises are hard and I really feel them the next day. There's not a whole lot of direction on getting the right form or how to combine exercises to create balanced workouts, but for $90, it's a way better bargain than an elliptical machine, IMO.

We have one. It is a lot of fun. I love everything except the strength stuff. They chose some weird exercise IMO. But I am a hard core weights kind of girl so I am sure that skews my opinion!

Balance is my favorite of all of them. I have actually noticed improvement in my flat feet since starting using it. And you really work up a sweat during the aerobics stuff.

I have been meaning to start a Wii Fit thread here. I was wondering if anyone else is using one. I got mine at the end of May and it has been great, particularly for monitoring my progress. My weight tends to fluctuate a lot day-to-day, and I love being able to look at the graph and see that overall, there is a downward trend. It keeps me motivated, even though the scale says I am up 2 pounds since yesterday.

I was travelling a lot in July and did not use it as much, but it is great to come home and check in and see how I am doing. I also like it because my son likes to play and watch me do it so I can spend time with him in the evening while working out.

I have also been dieting, doing a modified version of ETL.

Here are my 2 month results:

5/28/08
BMI: 28.68
Weight: 155.9

7/31/08
BMI: 26.49
Weight: 144.0

:

Still "overweight" and I need to lose another 15-20 pounds, but I feel so much better now. My clothes are fitting better and I just feel like I am going to get there now, eventually. The weight is coming off slowly it seems, but I can look back and see the progress and feel like I am really making headway. It is keeping me on the right track.

I was curious about what a real weightlifter would think about the strength exercises... they are definitely hard for me but I could easily imagine outgrowing them. What do you find weird about the exercises, Froggurami? There is one that involves laying down and then sitting up and then getting back up all while holding the wiimote up in the air--that one is agony to me.
Does anyone else have a center of balance that is totally to the right? I am starting to think that one of my legs must be longer than the other because I'm always totally to the right and then centering myself doesn't feel right on my feet. I have noticed through playing WF that my right side is vastly stronger than the left.

I guess the main thing is that many of the exercises I consider balance exercise. Then there are things like the squat where they tell you to only go to 120 degrees. It's a quarter squat and is not very functional. A paralell squat would have been more functional.

There are some good ones on there though. Lunges, planks and

this one. It's a Turkish Get-up and is a great full body move. It's one I do with kettlebells a lot.

So they aren't all bad and I doubt their target audience was weight lifters anyways! LOL

You likely have big imbalances then, which isn't really uncommon in our sedentary world. It could also be a flexibility issue. It really is amazing how being in flexible in one area can really through you off in the other areas!!

Just got it today. I know I'm overweight but it also classified my dd as overweight even though she's ALL muscle. I haven't had a chance to do anything other than create my profile. Maybe I'll get a chance after the kids retire for the night. I'll still have to fight the mr. over who gets to use it but maybe we can challenge each other to a boxing match to see who gets to use it first.

BMI is stupid. Just sayin'

My biggest concern with investing in this kind of thing would be the kids wanting to play all the time and me never getting a turn, lol! do you gals have that problem? Or with your los trying to climb on you while you use it? (That's my problem with yoga, pilates and the elliptical, ds wants to climb all over me while I do it )

I have one! I love it! I'm a runner, so I, naturally dislike the running games. But, the other aerobic ones are nice. I really like the hula hooping, the step and the boxing (I guess that's all the rest). I am also enjoying the strength and yoga sections a great deal. I use the balance games to cool down. DH and I are separately motivating each other, because we'll come on and see that the other one has beaten our high score, and will have to trounce them!

I haven't had a problem with the kids bothering me, too much. It's much easier to get them to let me do the Wii Fit, than it is to make sure they are safe and leave me alone long enough to use the treadmill.

We have one and I love it. The problem I'm seeing is that with the BMI measurement built into the body test, and the machine's advice to take the body test on a daily basis, my elder two are way more focused on their weight than they should be/ever were before. (They have BMIs of 14 and 15 respectively...mine is 41.18. Down from 46.

You don't have to take the body test. I think I have only taken it two or three times.

I know that, but they love the body test function because they get a kick out of being told how old their bodies are- literally, they'll go and see what happened in that year.Totally geeky. It's not a big deal, it just bugs me.

It is on my Xmas list!

i LOVE our WiiFit!!!
we try to use it as often as we can. i like watching my REALLY high bmi come down a lil each time.
my faves are the ski jump and the hula hoops. but i also enjoy doing the yoga. i cant quite run, like at all cause of my knees, so i dont, i leave that up to Addy, who can do the long run twice in a row and still be beaming
its a nice way to have fun, and be a lil less sedentary.

I love my WiiFit and all, but what is up with the running game that won't let you run fast and makes you fall down if you run fast? WHY??

I want to get one..how much does it cost. I was considering a gym membership for the winter months however this seems like a great option.

I guess you need to buy the wii and then get the wii fit accessories?

Thanks

Carolyn

No, as long as you have a Wii and a yoga mat, WiiFit comes with everything you need. For me, WF was $90. I imagine the price is the same since it came out recently. I really hope Nintendo comes out with more balance board games.
