Glad you are happy with the results! Every bit you dilate now means less later.

Why did they do an exam, btw? You should know that routine exams really don't tell you much (though I admit to being as curious as anyone else!) and can introduce infection.

As for me, I'm pregnant with my 3rd. My other two were born on this day gestation. I did ask for an exam today because I was feeling a little disappointed that things hadn't happened this time like they did the other times.
I'm 2-3cm, no effacement, baby is in +2 station

I was 100% effaced at 36w (2 weeks ago!!), the baby is so low her head is threatening to come out of my vagina right now... and I'm still here... just waiting for labor to start. lol

I have no idea if I've dilated since then because my MW does not do internal exams without good reason (like at 36w I was having very painful contractions and I was still considered "pre-term" so she wanted to see what was going on).

Now's the time to rest up and fantasize about baby time! Dilation and effacement do nothing to predict when you will go, unfortunately. Hang tight!

I agree that it's good to know that your body is preparing, though.

I think the reason the doc tested was because he was already doing the group B strep test.

I had a doctor (with my first) that she would do the exam every time I would go to her appt. for the last month. I thought it was normal

I am 40 wks today, 2 cm dilated, not sure how effaced or station we are since I didn't ask doh! I been having contractions but they are not regular, just came back from my walk and the contractions are back. As long as I contract to keep myself dilating I am just happy with that, less work during active labor :

That's what I'm thinking. I was (because I was having contractions every 3 minutes at some points) taking it easy because I was 36 weeks. But once I hit 37 and on, bring 'em on! More contractions, less work during labor! Woo

I was also 1 cm at 37 weeks, 3 cm at 38 weeks, and am still very much pregnant (39 weeks today). Doc thought I'd certainly have the baby before my appointment today, but no such luck! It's my first too, and he said that much progression in a week probably meant things would happen soon. Oh well - it'll happen sooner or later!

This is my second full term pregnancy and at 37 weeks I was 70% effaced and 1.5-2 cm dilated. It was nice to know that my body was "getting ready" but I also know I can be there for a long time before baby comes. I won't get checked again until labor really gets going. With ds my first check in labor was when I was 9 cm dilated already and I loved that!

I have learned so much at every stage of this pregnancy! I have been 4 cm dilated and at -1 station for a week ( will be 39 weeks on Sunday), and went from 80% dilated to 90% dilated in the last week...all has been SO different from what I thought about birth from the media! I was really impatient for a while (I really still am, but in better control) but feel so good about my body doing all this work ahead of time, and about learning a good lesson in letting go of expectations, and control.

As for me, I'm 35 weeks today, and according to my husband, still high, tight, and very hard.

I had my 37 week appointment today...I'm 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced, and my fundal height is measuring 39 cm!

I'm happy because at least I'm further along than I was the first time...at 39 weeks I was barely fingertip dilated.
