Anyone planning to fire up the crockpot? help with recipes...

I have a big crockpot and a cook book, but honestly I feel a bit clueless. Can anyone share recipes that would be good to prepare for postpartum?

There is always the old standby of chicken with spices and uncooked rice. Then when its half done throw in some chopped veggies (unless its carrots or potatoes, those can go in at the beginning).

I like to make soups with my crock but its not really soup season here.

This is where I get all of my crock pot recipes:

Its a South Beach Diet message board --- but basically that just means a healthy way to eat. If something says "Phase 1" that just means you can add a whole grain of sorts to make it a complete meal. There are some really yummy recipes! I love the Thai Peanut Chicken/Chicken Satay

I'll share my labor crockpot meal:

1.5lbs diced boneless chicken breasts
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 diced onion

Cook on low for 3 hrs. Then I put it over cooked pasta or rice...yum!

I did a "trial run" on it this week and put the crockpot in the garage (per a suggestion I read about here on MDC) so it wouldn't smell up the house (food smells could cause nausea during labor I've read).

I'm going to use our crockpots to keep warm water and washcloths in. I'm buying sandwich stuff and fresh fruit for labor attendants.

I love comfort foods, so mine are mostly:

Chili
Chicken & dumplings
Short ribs
Kielbasa or Brats with sauerkraut with some brown sugar
Different bean concoctions - I'm an experimenter
Fish chowder
Corn chowder
Pot pies (not necessarily crock pot, but an easy heat up)

I'm good and hungry now

A year of crock potting blog!

I have about 30 meals frozen already, but after those run out, I'll probably do beef stroganoff, lentil soup with kale and smoked sausage, chili, african bean and peanut stew, etc.

Actually, I'll have the crockpots out for our meal to feed the birth team, too! I made BBQed smoked pulled pork and chorizo baked beans which are currently frozen. My husband will pull those out of the freezer as soon as I go into labor, and my sister will put them in the crockpot as soon as she arrives. We've also got some scalloped potatoes I prepared in the freezer, which someone will throw in the oven, but COULD be prepared in a crockpot!

Those are great recipes. I'll have to keep them in mind too.
