Birdseye a good soaker fabric?

I am starting out and I would like to make some one wet undies for dd (we EC) and I was wondering if birdseye would be a good choice for the soaker layer? I can get it for $1.60/yd which sounds pretty good I just have to purchase a lot of it and want to make sure that it will work first kwim. Also would it work for mama pads and nursing pads?

Thanks

you have to use lots (and lots) of layers, but it works fine. I stay away from it because all the layers make them dry slower--but that's just me .

There are definitely more absorbant fabrics out there, though.

Like what type of farbric? Any particular brand names you know of? Would flannel be better? Any help would be great.

I totally agree. I like it, but it's best for small ones and older kids that just need a back up trainer.

Flannel is *ok* just about like birdseye. Microfiber (you can get the automotive detailing cloths at Walmart, Sam's, Target) is awesome, for natural fabrics, hemp fleece is great, but it's hard to come by lately. Bamboo is pretty good, but so expensive that you shouldn't just hide it as a soaker...anyone else?

I agree on the flannel--it's ok, about the same as birdseye.

I really like bamboo fleece and organic cotton fleece. But $$$. These are super absorbant, though.

I'm not a microfiber gal--though lots like it and it does work well. I have laundry issues with non-natural fibers.

Another great one is Burley Knit Terry--you only need a couple layers for nice absorbancy. Sherpa is another popular one.

Check the diaper shops/supplies sticky at the top of this page. You'll find lots of great links that may help you in your search!
