"Ma'am, are all those your children?"

Just wondering what defines "many" in this thread. I'll lurk either way, just wondering.

I've missed the last few months so I want to jump in now before I forget again. I just got back from visiting my brother and his small family for a week and man did I feel like I had a lot of kids.

Yep. It's school holidays here and I feel like a horsedrawn circus most days- taking everyone out is slow and awkward, and great entertainment for everyone else :

We are keeping our 15yo close to home for a few weeks following a minor mis-demeanour involving the police so dh and I are working out who is doing what with who and which of us can have him with them all day. In theory it shouldn't be a problem as he is a genuinely good person who is not bad to have around but so many of the things we do are geared toward the little people and spending a day with dh here, there and everywhere in the car is not good every day.

Is anyone else stretching themselves thin between the need of teens and toddlers via in-betweeners? I see a long month ahead.

Dh and I are trying some sleep training on ourselves to try to get to bed before 2am but it isn't working. We are resistant to falling asleep earlier despite being dead-dog tired and for the other part some things just need doing for the business and I can't do them with the kids hanging off my knees during the day.

Where is the tired and weary smilie?

Four gets you in.

I have four of my own, do childcare from home and have a gaggle of neighborhood kids that hang out here.

So, what's everyone been up too?

DH just had surgery on his leg yesterday, and is doing well resting. We just got the chicken coop finished up, and go the chickens moved in a couple days ago. They love it! We have 40 birds (white & brown leghorns, and some cinnamon queens). AND, we have already got 4 eggs from them!! I was surprised, as I thought it would be September before they started laying!

The boys are still at their dad's for the summer, the girls are busy exploring outside. My house is a disaster, but oh well. I'm planning on having a garage sale in a couple weeks to clear oout some of the stuff that's piled up over the years. It will feel good to get rid of all of this stuff! Whatever doesn't sell, I'm going to Freecycle.

We are having a mini-crisis here too. My income is ending, and I don't see how we can make it without it. We've had our house on the market for 6 months or so, but no interest. I'm calling a home ownership hotline on Monday again (tried today but no answer). They work with your lender to help avoid foreclosure, so I hope they can help us. We have done all we can to cut expenses, and there's no way we'll be able to stay here. As of today, we are 2 months behind on our mortgage .

We'd love to move and downsize all of our stuff so we can try & live off of just DH's income for awhile. If we need to apply for public assistance, so be it. DH will just have to suck it up and get over his embarrassment and shame. I am trying my best to find work that will actually be worthwhile.

So, how's everyone else doing???

Me

I have four teenagers and eleven year old preteen, a five year old and a newborn. Well I don't have toddlers at the moment but I do have different ages and stages and Its a fine balance between watching them, keeping them all keep safe and giving them the love and attention they need. I feel I could do with another set of eyes and arms some days I often feel outnumbered especially with hubby working long hours to support us all.

My five year old daughter Ruby is not coping with the new baby; after five years of being the youngest and the centre of everyone’s attention she dosn't want to give up that position in the family.

I am. I have a 15 & 12 year old and then a 2.5yr & 11mo old and am pg. It's hard to change hats constantly throughout the day.

What I love about it though is the relationship between my olders and my littles. It's precious.

MommyofMany - I hoe you can sort something out. This is a terrible time to try and sell a house here too. Prices are falling and falling and we are thinking that in a year's time we may actually be able to afford to buy a 3 bed house to get more space but not be able to sell our existing house.

About the gap - My big boys are good to the smaller ones too. My 11yo came to meet us at a friend's house yesterday and dd2 was so pleased and surprised to see him that she hung on round his neck for ages.

Ds1 has friends who also have littler siblings and he always tells us that he thinks 'our baby' is the coolest of them all because she is so gorgeous and smart already. (Doesn't everyone think the same about their own kids ) Apparently all these 6ft lads exchange stories of their sibling's escapades and funny things they say. Sweet.

Thanks orangefoot!

My oldest 2 are AWESOME helpers (they are boys ages 15 & 13). Then I have an 8, 6, 4, & 19 month old. I sometimes feel like the 8 yr old gets the short end sometimes, but I try not to let that happen. If I have to run to the store or something, I'll usually bring just him with, to have a bit of one-on-one time with him. He is SUCH a sweetheart as well.

I absolutely LOVE watching the older ones care for the younger ones. Abby (19 months) ADORES Logan (15)! I get tears in my eyes sometimes thinking about it!

I would guess 4 children equals a M.O.M.

Just wanted to say I admire all you M's.O.M, very inspiring to me as a mom of one.

I'm in...although I "only" have 5. I have enjoyed lurking off and on. Mine are 19, 15, 13, 2, and 10 weeks.
