39 week appointment

Well, needless to say, no change. 1 cm, 50% effaced and still at -3 station. I really thought I would have been at least 3 cm dilated but no such luck. I go back the day before my due date so maybe something then. DP wants to see if I can be induced on 8-8-08 but who knows. I'm a little down about the whole situation. I'll be home all next week so expect to see more of me on MDC.

don't be disappointed You are still a whole wk to go girl! I was due yesterday and here I am, we are not going to be pregnant forever Trust me, most of the inductions end up in c-section I wished I could've avoided them and have a natural birth all the way, didn't know any better

hang in there!!!! : labor vibes to you...

I was due to be induced with dd1 (for no good reason) and ended up going into labor on my own the night before the induction....I went to the induction all excited "you dont have to induce me!" (yeah I know I was stupid and naive) and they didnt listen to me and induced me anyway (or just gave me the same drugs and I have regretted it ever since. I ended up with a c/s and this is the reason why I am now also on the vbac board going for my 2nd vbac....once a vbac always a vbac: Why does dp want you do be induced? Is there a medical reason?

Hey Monique,

Just thinking of you, and sending you happy labor vibes. I'm also getting impatient over here- in addition to being sick of being pregnant, I just want to meet my kid!

But, this last bit of waiting is all going to disappear as soon as those babies arrive, and we won't even remember how frustrated and impatient we were feeling!

And, my good friend just had her baby, who came, naturally, a week late. She said that although she was very frustrated at having to wait, she thinks the fact that her kid hung out in womb for longer has contributed to her being an easy, calm baby who sleeps and feeds perfectly. So, the silver lining...

I believe this. My second was 10 days overdue. I was praying like crazy to go into labor naturally. The day I was scheduled to be induced I actually went into the hospital in labor!!!

Anyways he is such an easy kid and EASy baby (meaning he slept soundly and just was so amiable). The same with my third..though he was just 2 days late.

I am getting antsy over here...I really want to get stuff done, but don't have the energy. I feel too huge to move it takes all my energy to keep up with just regular day to day things.

First time moms don't usually progress much before labor really starts. And of course first time moms usually go to 41 weeks. I know its hard because you are feeling done and you've had contractions. Boy, do I know it!

He will be in your arms soon!

PLEASE, don't do the induction. I did and I was all excited about it. Then I went into the too-much-intervention-cycle..I pushed for five hours, was in incredible pain and eventually agreed to a c/s. I have regretted it ever since. I have cried and cried my eyes out about it. Please don't do it. Be patient, baby will come eventually.

Oh mama dont get induced! I did, and 2 csections later (that started from inductions) I'm going through HELL and fighting so hard to have a natural birth! The end sucks, but your so close. Let your body do what God designed it to do. Your body and baby wil thank you.

Did I mention that contractions are sooooooo beyond painful with induction meds? Way way way worse than natural contractions. I never hear of a women going natural that was induced.

Induction doesn't necessarily mean a c-section! My first was induced at 42 weeks (starting from zero dilation and 0% effaced) and was a "normal" birth. I certainly wouldn't agree to an induction for the sake of being born on a certain date but if you do end up being induced for other reasons don't let these horror stories scare you. You can still have your baby naturally.

I agree with Ashley, an induction doesn't necessarily mean a c-section. My sister was induced last year because of diabetes and had an easy and short labor (into the hospital in early am, baby in early pm). I will be induced once my husband arrives from Iraq next week, if after a few days of DTD it doesn't happen naturally, cause he only has 14 days home before he goes back and I want him here for the birth and a few days after. I've had 3 vaginal births and I've never even entertained the idea that this induction might end up in a c-section....

Induction for non-medical reasons is not a popular idea around here, and with good reason - the research shows that an induction does increase your chance of c-section by quite a bit. This article by Henci Goer has a lot of good information.

If you do go for an induction, at least consider your Bishop Score beforehand.

I would agree that if you can hold off on an induction, that it is a much better labor imo. If there is no medical reason, it will be best to wait. First babies sometimes take a bit more time. My first was an induction and it is only because of God's grace that I didn't end up with a c/s. I did go naturally, but mainly because my contractions were so hard and intense due to the pitocin that I could be still for an epidural.

My second was natural all the way-no induction and much easier to handle as far as labor pains.

Hang in there!!!

I agree that a non-medical induction is not a good idea. Even if you were induced on 08-08-08 doesn't mean your baby will be born on that day.

Its better for you and your baby to let things progress normally.

Thanks all for the encouragement. I'm still adamant about letting the labor come naturally. I just glad today is my last day of work and that maybe relaxing around the house and swimming will help bring on the labor on my due date. DP and I tried DTD last night to get things moving and will try to every night until next week.

I'm totally against the drug intervention for induction so we'll see if and when my body says its time. Thanks all. I actually feel much better today.

I had 2 inductions and they never ended up in c-section! BUT I REGRETTED IT!!! My babies had a hard time with getting the breastfeeding started, their heart beat dropped while in labor, painful contractions that no one can't experience naturally, etc, etc. The babies get a traumatic enter to the world because PITOCIN IS AN EVIL DRUG! Today I watched Orgasmic Birth and learned so much about induction, gosh, I think every mom-to-be or bearing child woman should see this film to help her make educated decisions about giving birth naturally. Seriously! I cried and cried throughout the film, such an empowering movie!!!! They say, only a 10% of women need c-sections - the rest end up been cut up because all the intervention starting with pitocin that it makes baby's heart beat to drop, it makes so much sense...

Monique I am so glad you are going to be at home, I worked until I was 8 months preggo and I know the feeling, been at home is going to make such a huge difference... now put your feet up and relax... oh wait NO... do some lots of walking and dtd!

Much love to you! Have you considered acupuncture for induction or to at least get things rolling?

You know, up until recently, I hadn't thought of it until other mommies were mentioned their appointments. I plan to maybe get a massage and facial this week so it may help me relax. I also plan to do some swimming and walking around my complex in the early mornings. Maybe it will help get things moving.

I am definitely going to enjoy being home this week. Just relaxing, watching tv and hanging out on MDC.

If it makes you feel any better (it probably won't), you're way beyond where I was at 39 weeks with my son. I ended up having him at 41w3d, and I did not dilate at ALL until I was in labor. Hang in there!!!
