I was thinking about that yesterday, actually!...but aren't greyhounds mute, or am I making that up?
hey! i finally made it out to a coffee night after months and months of not being able to. i'm chelsea, i'm 23 and recently single after living pretty much as roommates with dd's dad...who is a great dad, we just didnt make eachother happy. my daughter is grace, she just turned one. grace was born at home (also with stacia!), but you can see my sig for those details. im currently staying at my mother's house in dearborn and i will be moving to canton the end of august. i used to nanny for michelle renee. i work full time now at whole foods in ann arbor as a cashier, and hope to transfer to the new store and get into something different. eventually, i'd like to go to school for nursing. i enjoy art and photography and i am constantly uploading pictures to flickr, though most of them are just of funny faces or other random things. i have an etsy shop where i sell vintage clothing and handmade things, please check it out - nashifeet.etsy.com.

i feel like i never have time for anything, and i would love to get together with everyone more often (am i dreaming?). i think we should plan a livonia coffee night again soon, and/or possibly an ann arbor one. monday nights are always good for me because it is the only time i KNOW im off work.

heather - YES the new rochester whole foods will have coconut milk yogurt!!

Greyhounds aren't mute but they just don't bark much. My dog is not a good guard dog in that he'd never do anything to an intruder. But I don't think that most dogs will unless you spend LOTS of time doing specific training for that. My dog is a guard dog in that he is a big dog that barks at strangers at the door. But he doesn't bark at every passerbye or noise he hears. That's a good thing in my book. When he does bark, it's actually pretty intimidating. The rescue required us to read Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies and it had lots of good info.

Feel free to pm me if you want the info for the rescue group we went through. They were awesome.

OK back on topic, I just had to do my greyhound plug!

Hey Shelley, congratulations on your new little bean!

I'm Stacia, married to my fantastic but shy architect husband, living in an extreme fixer-upper in Ann Arbor. I have two boys, 4 and 8. I haven't been to coffee night in ages because I've been working two nights a week and seem not to want to get my butt off the couch when I'm not working! I am lucky enough to be a midwife and doula and get to attend lots of great births!

I love to garden and make the most of my shady city lot. I also love to be outdoors and go camping and backpacking, though being on call makes that hard. My boys and I slept in the yard in our tent the last two nights! I'm trying to find campgrounds within an hour of Ann Arbor that have good cell phone reception too

I run a 'zine about childbirth and parenting in my free time and also like to hang out with my friends when I can.

Nice to see everybody! Even the people who haven't had a baby with me

Hi to another equestrian! I have a 6 year old bay TWH and hubby has (we're hoping he's sold) a 13 year old tobiano TWH. We used to do quite a bit of trailriding and camping and some showing, but no time now, and that's why the gelding is for sale. I might sell my mare, but GAH the market is terrible. Hubby's horse is in Fenton, and mine is here in Davison.

I'll actually be out there on Wednesday afternoon/evening! I'm coming with a friend from work (the one I was trying to call about the yogurt!) because he's been helping there and is really excited about the opening. Maybe we'll see you!

Hi everyone, I'm another Chelsea (duh - could you tell by my super original screen name?)

Married almost 4 years to my awesome DH who has slowly but graciously embraced the AP lifestyle - both our kids were born peacefully at home (Rosie just turned 3 and Sammy is almost 13 months), we practice extended bf, drink raw milk and strive to eat mostly local/organic foods (lots from our own garden), we don't vaccinate, we are slowly phasing out plastic toys, we love co-sleeping, babywearing, cloth diapering and I am proud to say our boy is intact (that was a tough one to convince DH about).

I teach yoga and like to be crafty in my (little) spare time and I also have an etsy store (seagreendesigns.etsy.com) and a lame blog (link in sig) that I use mainly to post photos of the kids for my extended relatives.

I love coffee nights and playdates - It is nice to hang out with like minded mamas who don't look at you like you have 2 heads when you whip out your boob in the middle of a conversation to feed a hungry toddler.

It was great to see so many people at our last HUGE coffee night...
when's the next one???

Agreed!

Hi. I am Teri, with 19 month old son Orin, and husband Paul (dated/married for 15+ years. Yikes!). I love mama's night out. So, much fun - even if I do get a little loopy on Caribou's sugary berry drinks. We live in Bloomfield with our very shy Cavalier dog, Simba.

If anyone is interested in joining us at the zoo this Friday, pm me.

Or if you are in the neighborhood, stop by! We have a ton of toys, thanks to Craigslist, mom to mom sales and online shopping! :

Hi I'm Amanda I'll be 30 next month (yikes). I've been married to Charley almost 6yrs and together 11. We live in Ferndale with our two sons Liam (3) and Brody (9 months) and our crazy beagle Belle. DH has taken well to all this AP, Co-Sleeping, Cloth Diapering extremely well and I love him for that.

I have known Vanessa you could say most of my life not only is she a great friend but a wonderful mother. I'm new to the coffee nights but love getting together, and I'm always up for a playdate!!

I'm Jenny, 23.

Mommy to Madeleine. 3/15/08. She's the most amazing little girl ever. I'm sure everyone thinks that about their babies, but it's true, she's amazing.

My bf, Kris, works at McLane Food Service Dist. in Plymouth and at the airport as a PSA. He's hoping to find something better soon. Not having much luck unfortunately.

We live in Westland with our crazy miniature dachshund, Matilda, and a bunch of fish.

I'm currently doing odd babysitting jobs and looking for a nanny job that I can bring my daughter to...unfortunately not having a lot of luck with that either. I am working on becoming an independent certified instructor with Baby Signs. In the future I'd like to look into possibly becoming a post-partum doula. And I'd also really like to move out of Michigan (maybe to the Chicago area or the Boston area?) and open up a children's book store/natural toy store.

Interests? Musicals, reading (as if I EVER find time to read a book anymore), and spending time with my family.

I never thought I'd get so into all this "natural stuff" before I got pregnant, but now I feel like such a source of support and information for my other friends with children when it comes to breastfeeding, vaccinations, babywearing, natural toy websites, etc. On the flipside though, I feel much more disconnected from some of my friends who are much more "mainstream" now.

PM me if anyone is ever interested in getting together...always looking for playdates and fun stuff to take Madeleine to!

I'll play, even though I haven't yet been able to make a coffee night. I'd love to--it's just so far for me. One of these days....

I'm Sarah and I live in Plymouth with my husband, my sweet little DD Charlotte (23 months) and two wild and crazy Jack Russells, Jack and Bella.

I'd love to meet some other mamas in my area. Anybody else in the Plymouth/Canton/Northville area? We are always up for playdates!

I work full time, but am fortunate to have a job where I am able to work from home a couple of days a week. DH works for a nonprofit in Ann Arbor. We used to live there when we were in grad school and if the housing market ever improves, we would like to move back.

My interests include reading, cooking, dogs, spending time with my family, when I have time I do some needlework. I used to dabble in soap-making and other natural body care stuff but I haven't done much of that since DD. DH got me a wonderful sewing machine for Christmas but I have yet to crack it open, though I'd absolutely love to learn how to sew. Hopefully this winter!

We have always been pretty careful about what we eat, we are former vegetarians (now we are omnivores again), buy as much organic as possible, limit junk food, etc. We try to live as low impact as possible. Charlotte still nurses and we co-sleep. I tried to leave her in her room last night by herself but I missed her so much I went in and slept in her bed with her!

Anyone else here on Facebook? It's my new online "addiction", just joined a couple of weeks ago at my sister's urging. Way too much fun, as if I needed another way to waste time online besides MDC!

hey sarah, i used to live and work in downtown plymouth up until a few months ago. i worked at the plymouth coffee bean and when i got pregnant with dd, i left and got a job at starbucks, so ive probably seen you around! sometimes we plan a livonia moms coffee night, i think we have one set for the 25th if you can make it! its a small but cozy group, and you could bring charlotte, ill have grace with me - she just turned 1. i have facebook - do you search by email on there? i dont remember! i also got a sewing machine from my ex's mother for christmas and ive never used it either! i keep telling myself every day that this will be the day i get it out, but seriously?! sewing machine + toddler? HAHAHA. yesterday, she was walking around with a hat i had started to crochet and the crochet needle, all proud of herself. i really want to learn to make soap, i was actually looking some things up the other day. we try and eat really well too, at least when dd is with me. i work at whole foods in ann arbor, so the discount helps a little

i hope to meet you soon, i think we would have a lot in common and i could always use some more mama friends, i dont have too many, and dd's dad still lives in plymouth so i'm out that way fairly often, especially on mondays because that's when i pick her up from her weekend at his house.

hope to see you at coffee too!

Hi!

I am Kelly (31), married 6 years to Dave. We live in Canton. We have a son, David who is 3.5 born via csection (he was breech) at 36w. Since then, I have educated myself here at Mothering and other places. We had DD, Rachel on 12/20-7 via a hospital VBAC with the St. Joe Nurse Midwives. It was awesome!! I hope I can talk DH into another baby and a possible birth center or homebirth.

I recently started knitting (mostly longies for the fall/winter) and I love to read. We like to camp (Stacia - We camp at the Waterloo recreational campgroup at Big Portage Lake, it is great, gets cell reception and is only 1/2 hour from AA). I also garden and I can see my tomatos turning oranger from the window right now, can't wait to see them red and juicy!

anyway, I hope to start making it to coffee night but DD only wants me to put her to bed and she turns into a pumpkin if she is awake past 7:30. So, we will have to see about that.

It has been great to read about everyone!
Kelly

Hi everyone!

I'm Jackie (as you can see from my sooo original s/n, lol!) I'm 32, married to Dave for 12 years. We have four kids, a 12 yo DS (he has aspergers), 9 yo DD, 4 yo DS, & an almost 3 yo DS. We currently live in Garden City, we've been wanting to move out of the area for a while now, plus, we need a bigger home, so we can plan on TTC #5!

We love camping too, & go to waterloo (sugar loaf lake) quite a bit. My DH is a water sports nut, but I rather just peacefully float on a raft or go fishing!

Just wanted to say "Hi!"
Hey jackie!

I've been thinking about camping at Sugar Loaf because it is close enough to Ann Arbor that I can still be on call. Tell me more about it! You wouldn't happen to know if you can get a cell phone signal out there, would you?

I would love to hear about any more metro Detroit camping too. My kids are going out of town without me this weekend because I'm waiting on a baby.
