This. Also, it would be great if the ped was sensitive to the issue. I do like my ped for many reasons but here is another allergy complaint: We have had reactions to bananas. She stated that 'nobody is allergic to bananas' when actually it is a cross-allergen (not the right term but it is what is stuck in my brain) with latex and we have all heard of that one.

The other thing I do know is that testing is not usually recommended before 1 year, they will only test positive if they have been previously exposed enough to cause a reaction, and a person can outgrow allergies. Also, many women develop more allergies in their mid-thirties give or take a few years. I wonder if that is stress related? I wonder if all the vaccines are contributing to all the auto-immune issues we are experiencing as a society?

Gosh, sleeping through the night? I have two kids and a husband that can't do that. :

Mrsb, you mention hummus and I had to go make baba ganoush and tabbouli (can anybody spell those for me? I am too lazy to double check ) for dinner. : I do make my hummus but I really don't use a recipe. I'll try to find the one I started with and pm it too you.

Wendi, how is the mil situation today?

Sunshine, I hope the craft-swappers get their stuff or your dh admits to hoarding your craft items at work. Maybe he is running a secret ebay business? How is your Mom today? I forget, do you have siblings helping?

greenmagick, our stairs are also behind a door. Big kids often leave the door open and he loves to go up. His goal? All the playmobil is up there so he doesn't choke.

Katie, congrats on finding a house and getting some sleep, that can make all the difference.

you tell that ped that your internet friend knows THREE grown people that are allergic to bananas.

that'll show her.

Wow - leanbh, you must be dealing with a bunch of allergen issues. I am sorry I haven't kept up with Ro. Are you avoiding issues - I am sure you are trying, I am wondering about your method and success. Have you had more than carrot problems?

not really. i mean carrots is all that we've found that she's allergic to really. we've just been avoiding the major ones until we can introduce them after a year (eggs, pork, gluten, soy, red berries, fish), and when we do introduce them, it will be a slow and carefully watched process ... luckily, this girl will eat anything, and we've been able to feed her lots of veggies, fruit, chicken and beef.

we're just really careful because a lot of health issues run in dh's family. celiac disease and diabetes are just two of the more common ones. there's a disorder that dh has that is caused by a family history of celiac and diabetes. it prevents him from eating weird things like peas, lentils, corn syrup, etc. and he's celiac.

BUT him and his sister were not breastfed... we're thinking that the formula the they were given in the early 80's and the lack of nursing might be culprits.

we're really hoping that ro doesn't start showing signs of any other allergies.

my allergies are really simple and random. i used to be allergic to strawberries and milk but i outgrew both of those. (actually, pregnancy cured my lactose intolerance... how's that for hormones!) now, i'm allergic to coffee and collared greens. bizarre right?

the carrots only gave her eczema which is why we're avoiding them. usually allergic reactions begin with a skin reaction and become more serious the more times a body is exposed. it was nasty eczema, bordering on hives. so, we're just going to wait a while before we try giving her carrots again despite what our ped's PA said.

Mommajb: I do hope it's arrived. I know he sent it out for me. He brought home one of the tracking numbers, I don't know why he didn't bring the others??? One of them just called me a scammer. That's the last thing I need right now. It's awful. Mom mom is stable right now. They are trying to figure out what caused the heart failure exactly instead of well, it could be this or this or this. I imagine ppl sitting around like in House the tv show. hahaha. It gives me a giggle. She knows who she is, who we are and where she is so that's a start. I do have a sister but she can only help so much. She's slightly disabled and works as a fulltime nanny 55-60hrs a week. I am able to help the most bc I am not "working" and only care for children on Mon/Fridays. I was blessed today when the mom called and said that one of the girls was ill so she was keeping them both home.....

lindsay: Lilah can't have peas. They give her big ol splotches. I always thought, "what a strange thing to be allergic too. how can one be allergic to peas...." but there is an allergy. Strawberries too. hugs for ro.

Ok, I came home for dinner and to check in here and visit with dd1 for a bit. I am gonna run back to the hospital now that Dh is home and visit with mom alone for awhile.....

love you guys.

You ladies post way too much, i can never keep up

anyway, some quick updates..

1st B-day: Lila turns one on Sept. 3rd and big brother, Rowan, turns 4 on the 8th so we're doing a double birthday party since it's just easier for friends and family. I'm doing a Thomas the Tank theme which is more for Rowan as he is obsessed with Thomas, but I don't think Lila will mind, hehe. A year old! jeez, can't believe it.

Bike rides: DH has taken the kids a few times in the trailer that hooks on to his bike and they LOVE IT. DH keeps trying to get me to buy a bike and go too but I haven't ridden a bike since I was about 12, I'd be so horrible! haha

STTN: Lila is usually still up once or twice a night but I think it's more for comfort than nutrition because the sessions only last 3-5 minutes and she's conked out again so I don't really mind.

Weaning: Gosh, in the beginning my goal was to nurse for a year but now that Lila will be one in just a few short weeks I can't even imagine not nursing her anymore. I'm thinking I might go to age 2 before I think of weaning her, unless of course she weans herself before then.

The whole family has the flu right now . Luckily my kids seem to have gotten the least of it, they're crusty nosed and have coughs, but besides that they seem happy. DH and I are another story

I just had a thought about sleeping through the night and it is kind of funny. I weigh in and go work out first thing in the morning so everytime somebody wakes me up I wake Linus and nurse him so I won't be full when I step on the scale and head to the gym. I might be disturbing his sleep more than he is waking me.

I wouldn't want a few ounces of milk to make it look like I wasn't losing weight.

Sunshine, I am sure you are doing all you can to take care of business. I hope Dr. House figures it all out for you.

maylea_moon, : I hope you are all over the flu and what-not soon. :

i do that too mommaj...

it's the little things for me these days.

i am not going to go see mom until later this evening.

gonna spend the day at the pool with the girls since dd1 has been begging to go. wish i had her tenacity sometimes. she amazes me.

oh, someone in this house, someone sweet, chubby and little....sat yesterday on the FIFTH stair of the stairs...BEAMING. SO PROUD.

the gate was up. she was in the living room with her big sister.

i got up, walked 2 feet into the kitchen to pour a fresh glass of tea. came out and she was on the stairs, gate was down, big sister was using the potty.

i drew in my breath and she looked at me and i raced up to get her bc i startled her. last thing i need is her tumbling down 5 stairs. silly girl.

she was soooo happy and we played.

so, i am off to the pool for some r and r with arm swimmies that i will blow up enough to put on her arm and then overblow once they are on her arm for added measure.

I think I am all caught up and come here and am two pages behind!

Allergies ~ Eavan is allergic to dairy but we figured it out on our own and haven't had him tested. I had skin testing when I was four and will never forget it as long as I live. We have a lot of environmental allergies but not many food allergies. Eavan's dairy allergy is very obvious and simple enough to deal with. No dairy/No allergy! He gets screaming red eczema within hours of ingesting even the slightest bits of dairy. He can't even eat anything with calcium lactate. If it says lact anywhere in the ingredients he reacts.

So far Dahlia is sensitive (not allergic) to acidic things. The one thing she has reacted to is dog kibble! :

Sunshine It will ease up! It will ease up! It will ease up!

Mommab ~ poor Linus with his mama using him like that for weight loss!

STTN ~ That should be NSTTN as in NEVER! She woke about 10-12 times last night and has taken to just wanting to sleep with my nipple in her mouth which means I am not really sleeping. She is working on a ton of teeth so I know the reason but that doesn't make it easier.

Solids ~ Suddenly Dahlia is eating everything she can get her hands on. In the past few days she has had blueberries, cucumber, avocado, peaches, bananas, steak, O's, veggie sticks and kibble! We don't call her the kibbler for nothing! Our dog is a social eater so she gets a mouthful of kibble and brings it right to Dahlia to eat together. Hazel eats some and Dahlia eats some! They are fast too. Last night my dh got about 8 pieces out of Dahlia's mouth and he was already walking to them when Hazel dropped the food. Dahlia just grabbed a big handful and shoved it in before he could get to her.

I woke up this morning to RAIN!!! Weird.

It is my friend's birthday so I am going to take her something sweet!

Oh I forgot. On the MIL front, NOTHING! I haven't heard a word from anyone. We are in limbo at this point because she doesn't want to leave her situation but she isn't far gone enough for us to force her. I am really pissed at her UA violation of a husband that has called APS FOUR times after my dh was down there and told him to call us for ANYTHING!!! ARGH!!! :

So we wait!
Thanks for thinking of me. I just can't believe how rude, lame and unsupportive the social worker was towards me.

I’m looking for a good recipe because the stuff in the store is just so salty.

to you all!!
Hummus is pretty easy. Here is the base that I use:

30 oz can of chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
juice of 1 lemon
1-2 cloves of garlic
1-2 Tablespoons Tahini
about 1/4 c olive oil
salt & pepper to taste

Process the first 4 ingredients to a thick paste, pour in the oil as the machine is processing. If the mix is still too dry after the addition of oil, add water in the same manner. Season w/salt & pepper as desired.

Its good on its own, but its also really good with feta, roasted red pepper chopped spinach, cayenne pepper (once Marty likes spicy), or extra garlic (roasted), etc. I'm not a fan of tahini, so you could add more than the 1-2 T above if you like it. It makes a big batch that freezes well.

maylea_moon: I feel the same way about weaning.

GTG. Miss you ladies.

So fast you girls are...

Allergies - No allergies here either but to all of you dealing with them. With my Crohn's, I have/had (been in remission since getting pregnant) a lot of food sensitivities and trying to weed out what was okay and what wasn't was really difficult.

STTN - Still not so much but we found out that Ezri has ANOTHER ear infection - she JUST got over one! We're looking at having to put tubes in her ears which I'm not thrilled about but if it will keep her from having to take any more medications or suffer any more pain, so be it. I think that her ears have been keeping her from sleeping well so we'll see what happens.

Sunshine - Don't you just love that look of pride they get when they figure out something new? Hopefully those little moments make all the other stress you're facing a little easier to bear. to you.

Lactivist - to you too. I everything is okay with your MIL.

Mrsb - Congratulations on finding a new daycare. It is already hard to leave your LO but even harder when you have to deal with the things you have. Here's hoping the next few weeks fly by WITHOUT any more problems.

Katie - Congrats on finding a house.

As for us, we got some exciting news last night...

WE'RE PREGNANT!!!

It was only my PP 2nd cycle so I'm not entirely sure, but I think I'm due around April 17th. We had actually decided to wait until fall to TTC. I'm a bit nervous after everything that happened last time, but I trust my body and my instincts and I think it will be okay. I keep reminding myself that I did have a very easy pregnancy last time - even with twins - in terms of how well my body handled it. Unfortunately for us, it was just one of those things that we'll never really understand. At any rate, I am excited to get to go through another pregnancy and to give Ezri a sibling.

I was also thinking how fun it would be for one of my former DDC-mates to join me in my new DDC. Any takers?

Hi Sabo.

This is very similar to what we do but I start with 1 bag of chickpeas which makes about 6 cups of beans and adjust accordingly. If you do cook your own beans water works but different broths add a nice flavor. I am a huge fan of garlic and tahini. Once you start making it and tasting it you'll figure out just how you and Marty like it. My kiddos and dh all like kalamata olives and cucmber/yogurt tsatsiki. :

CONGRATULATIONS!! Your body is AWESOME!! You''ll be giving your dd such a wonderful gift.

omg, I can't believe it... but I'm jealous! We would be insane to get pg again, I'm having a tough time coping w/two.... but I saw a bunch of pregnant women yesterday while we were in St. Louis celebrating my 5yo's birthday and it made me feel sappy & sentimental about my lo's. I feel touched out & smothered most of the time... but then I see how much they've grown & how they're going to need me less & less and feel so sad. Good thing dh is holding strong about stopping at 2.

My friend who had PROM w/her twins had her babies yesterday! I haven't spoken w/her, but she left a message saying they were born & in the NICU, but doing really well. She was right at 32 weeks. I can't wait to hear/see more about them!

Okay, I can't really wear Ruby anymore. Not only do I get the stress eggs in my shoulder, but my lower back/hips feel like they're clanking against each other and they're soooo sore. I tried rocking her today after walking w/her in the babyhawk.... no luck.

Ruby's new favorite thing is hitting faces, or poking eyes if she gets the chance. She wakes up all silly and wriggles her arms & legs which I call "warming up" then goes right for my face. She's also pinching when she nurses. And throwing food. She started all of this stuff over the last week.... wishing it to be a leo thang. I don't let her do it, and use the word "gentle" alot.... I just wish our cat would hold her ground, tho... I caught Ru pushing her eye in! I know this was discussed in last month's thread but we weren't *there* yet.

OMG congrats congrats congrats

I wondered who would be first here.

I am feeling all sappy and excited now. We think we are done and I am excited to let people get older and I hope that things will get easier. (Can five children be easy??) Wow. April. Wow.

Have you tried other positions and carriers? I totally understand what you are saying and not trying to be pushy. I can't wear him around while I do other things at home and the like. I am getting better (or at least trying) about perceiving my limits bfore I am past them. I am having some luck with the ergo or mt on my back but much of my wearing this month has been in a pouch for just a bit of time like into the library, grocery store or something so that I can have my hands free to hold my 3 yo's hand in a parking lot.

I am so excited about the :bfp Fridaxsky.

I haven't done a back carry, yet.... I tried when she was a little younger and she didn't like it but I should try again now. I use the pouch or RS for trips out, too. I use the moby or babyhawk for longer carries like a walk or getting her to sleep and that's where I've run into back problems. I used to wear her all the time and then the last couple of months it's been too hot or something so now I'm not used to it. I would love to try an ergo w/Ru. I bought one w/Lily & sent it right back because she absolutely HATED it, but she's a sensitive, maybe Ruby would like it.

Congrats again, FridaXsky!
I would encourage you to try a back carry with the babyhawk. I am not a fan of the moby. It is a stretchy wrap so I do not think it is very supportive, especially with the bigger babies. I had one and sold it very quickly. Take this with a grain of salt if you want, I am not very good at any wraps though I wish I was.

I used to do back carries alone but for some reason I still need help with Linus in the ergo but not the MT. Dh or ds1 is usually quite helpful.

Check out Fridaxsky's new siggy.

Congratulations, Frida! That is so exciting! You will have to give us updates on everything! I'm afraid I won't be joining you but I believe that Jannah5 is in the January DDC.

I'm.so.tired.today. Liam was up again last night, so much for one good night. Andrew woke him up early from his nap because he was on the phone and he's been super cranky all day. I did manage to do a lot of laundry and some packing. I cleaned the car and got Liam's carseat situated so we can pack things in the car a little easier. I honestly haven't seen the house this clean since we moved here

We did get some not so good news. Because we have to absorb all of the costs of this move and won't be reimbursed for weeks because we found out on such short notice, we may not be able to pay for everything (including the house) right away and may be in temporary housing for a while. There's also a good change we'll lose the house because of this and may be starting from scratch once we get to NC. We also know that Andrew will be here for this Christmas but not next Christmas

It's dinner time. Much to all!
