That reminds me, I've got to do all that.

Oh man. I don't even know what to do with that. :

So, I would love to learn how to make alternative milk with a mesh bag. Especially if it is a lot cheaper. I use a lot of hazelnut milk right now, and have been enjoying it. Might be interested in making hemp milk if it isn't too hard.

Cool! I'll have to look for that.

Gotcha. I'm pretty sure SmartWool makes toddler sized socks. If not, let me know and maybe I can knit him some Not that I'm the fastest knitter, esp. of socks!

Hmm, not good for us - Chase has been sleeping 11-1 the past few weeks. If I'm lucky, I can be out UNTIL noon, but I can't go out then.

I love me some hazelnut as well, and Cliff uses rice milk on his cereal (I'm not a cereal eater).
I guess I'm going to have to look harder to find no-sugar-added milks!

Speaking of house projects, we are about to gut and remodel our downstairs bathroom. Oh lord, does it ever need redone. It's actually kind of embarrassing.
Yeah, we're going to give it 8 weeks. If there's no difference by then, obviously it is something else. But, lord, I'm missing cheese! Didn't think I would, really. But I do.

I didn't think your bathroom was embarassing

If DH got a job, it might work out but it's not looking good right now.
Wow, New Zealand! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get what you want!

Wool is not a bad idea. Nordic Naturals makes some really awesome long john wear that works really well as long as your husband remembers to never, ever put those in the dryer!

At least we got rid of the biggest lead paint source in the house. The ceiling in the foyer needs to be finished (just bare drywall up there now). Maddy's room needs the drywall sanded and painted, wainscoting, moulding, and a bed. Cliff's tools and computer things need to be moved to the basement in an organized fashion so he can use the stuff down there. And our bathroom needs to be completely gutted and redone. And the kitchen. Our house is a constant work in progress.
Wow! Lots of work. And a banister sounds like a reeeeeeally good idea. Although I lived in a one-level when I gave birth

Definitely get the Blue Diamond. I get mine at New Seasons by the case.

I LOVE embarrassing bathrooms! It's so much to laugh about the styles that people used to pick out.

Wow! 2 inches!! Awesome. I measured Jake on his birthday and then two months later, but didn't figure out how many inches he's grown. Need to go look. Humm...

I don't, but I've been needing a kick in the butt to start experimenting. I have a recipe for almond milk that looks really good.

I think you can get them at the post offices, too.

I went to a post office this morning with that expectation and they didn't have them. Just change of address forms. And the form wasn't in the post office packet that I'd used to change my address in July.

Yeah, for the most part... it's OK... but the plaster paper needs to be replaced in some spots.

I am thinking about doing something that goes with the era of the house, so not wainscotting, but... similar to that. We have it going on in the front hall. I can't remember the name of it, but it's like moulding... framework'ish stuff. D'oh! I really should learn the terminology for it.

No, they couldn't get a good culture. Although, they did stick an enormous needle all the way into my ankle joint. Ouch.
It is just labeled: drug resistant bacteria infection.

Better every day but I am nowhere near walking yet. I will never go barefoot again.

Oh, and I got a blogging job with a new site called the Tranquil Parent. I am their Parent Wellness and Self-care blogging contributor. I will let you all know when it is up. I write about one post per week. Thanks to Ellie who sent me a link to the job posting off Zrecs (the affiliate site).

And for the home office! Just remember, this is a slow time of year for all of us practitioners. Once fall gets going, it will pick back up, it always does. and you will attract more clients b/c you will be so happy in your new space and feeling like your practice more authentically connects to your life. I know it.

Foot. Healing. I am learning patience! And how to wheel around in a wheelie chair. And having lots of time to write.
So glad to hear your foot is healing. you've been in my thoughts!

I know it will pick up, and I should be grateful for the slow right now! I have SO MUCH to do!!!

yes I can have soba noodles, and glad to hear you're feeling better

I'm sure it will all come together beautifully. And as someone else said, your clients will be understanding.

What age toys are you looking for? We're getting ready to weed out some of Chase's infant stuff, but I'm guessing you've already got that age covered...If you want some videos, someone at DH's work gave him a bunch, mostly Disney, I think. I don't even know what's in the box.

Korin, can't you have Thai, etc. without the rice? That's what I've been doing lately - a lot of stir-fry, curries, etc. just served plain rather than putting them on something. Or is just the proximity to rice enough to flip the eczema switch?
You have milk makers! two big ones!
I don't know about needing any toys right now... anything I'm going to add or buy will be wood/etc... most stuff people want to keep not give away. Videos... prob not, but thx tho! i've got several good kids vids/dvds.
I don't know what i'd eat the curry with... just plain? so sad! sad lonely curry with no rice? poor sad curry!
yeah... I guess curry would be kind of like a soup without rice. Although... less filling, and therefore probably higher in calories, since I know at least I would be inclined to eat more sauce whereas if I could pair it with rice, I wouldn't.

But... hm. Possibly takeout poured over millet, or quinoa?

I've made almond milk with my blender and a fine mesh strainer... a mesh bag would have been better, but it was still delicious! I soaked the almonds overnight and then filled my blender with I think 4 cups water 1 cup almonds? I found the recipe online somewhere. I used a tbsp maple syrup to sweeten it. Blend for three minutes or so, strain, drink! It doesn't have much of a fridge life, and should really be enjoyed immediately. I've also made it just to use in a smoothie, and then I don't mind if it's a little gritty because it's all lost in the fruity pulp anyway. I worked the math out and it was slightly cheaper than the cartons, but I still buy the cartons because it lasts longer in the fridge.
Interesting. Did you have to apply heat to the almonds or blanch them to get the skins off first?

I just discovered ycdtotv.com

You Can't do That on Television episodes for my crazy, 30's crisis, where did my childhood go?, viewing pleasure. Yay!
I just blend the almonds, skins and all... the straining takes care of it. I suppose you could blanch the skins off if you wanted, it might yield a smoother milk. Try it and report back to us!

yeah - i like to add vanilla too. cinammon would be a nice twist...like horhcata

i don't soak, blanch or do anything to the nuts, but some people sprout them to get the lie enzymes. i love hazelnut too.

the mesh bags they have at amador (is that the name of the shop near zenana spa?) - it looks wrong as i type it somehow...

it lasts in the fridge for several days, and i bet one could freeze it too.

a little sea salt is nice for flavor too.
Lyla, I think you mean Mirador.

Jake got up too early :yawning:

Yesterday after his nap he didn't ask to nurse! That was very, very unusual. Then this morning he got up with Mike and hasn't nursed yet (I told him it was too early). Part of me wonders if this is leading to self-weaning... eek!
This came from a mom at my pre-school:

Kaya finally moved into a booster seat and I wondered what to do with her nice, expensive Britax. I looked into selling it, but with the expiration dates on seats and general safety in mind I looked into recycling it. I don't know if everyone knows or not, but you CAN recycle car seats in the Portland Metro area.

Through Legacy Hospital and www.childsafetyseat.org you can drop off your car seats at one of three locations and they will take care of the rest. Its a free service and I feel a lot better knowing that our seat won't be taking up space in our landfills.

Forward this on to anyone you know that will be getting rid of car seats!
