Run with the Dingoes during the Dog Days of August - Page 15

Do any of you have one foot that is very different than the other? I have high arches, but the one of the right side fell a little during preg #2. It's starting to be noticable when I run, and now my job is 100% standing.
What do you do? I love my shoe on the left foot, but the right one needs something a little different.

The weather here has finally taken a turn towards the cooler - it's only 81 now and was maybe low 70's when I ran this morning. Just before my turn-around point I passed a guy and a young girl, both in schmancy running stuff, him sitting on the bumper of their car while she did all sorts of Really Serious Stretching. He said 'hi' as I went by, and then when I came by again in about a minute, having turned around, he said "You're a good runner!" I laughed and said thank you, but it made my dang day!

It's so much easier to run when it's not so hot and humid, though. I was amazed.

Mommabelle - What about an orthodic insert for the side with the fallen arch? I would really recommend Footleveler's, as they are a custom orthodic and will be exactly the right fit, but they are definitely pricey.

drjen~WTG for your DS! What a great job! And congrats on your 11...you can TOTALLY do 17 next week!

hellokitty~I'm glad that you got some good advice from your running store. I hope it helps quickly!

jaygee~ I'm so glad you're feeling better today. I was worried last night! You're definitely going to feel a little weak when you get back out there, but I bet you'll be surprised at how quickly the training bounces back...it's still there, just a little buried. Besides, you HAVE to do it, or you'll renege on our deal from January! J/K

mothercat~Have a blast volunteering. I had SO much fun last weekend! Just make sure you wear lots of sunscreen and comfy shoes!

mommabelle~I agree, can you try an insert in that shoe only? I might start with a cheaper insert, like a Spenco. If it helps but doesn't feel like enough, then you could look into the more expensive semi-custom or custom inserts.

rr~I pleasantly surprised myself today. Had to work this morning, so I was kind of figuring that today would be a wash as far as a workout, but I actually got myself motivated to get out this afternoon for a bike ride. I ended up cutting it a bit short because storm clouds were starting to roll in, but I got 18.5 miles in, and my knee didn't hurt at all. I could still feel it a little, if you know what I mean, but it didn't hurt! :

Good luck to 2BBs (wherever you are!!!) and have fun volunteering today, mothercat!!!!!

I *think* I actually feel well enough today to go cycling and maybe do a little 15 minute run afterwards. That was the weirdest virus ever...

Aww man this sucks, last night my knee felt pretty good so I thought *maybe* I could run this morning. Perfect morning for it - nice and cool. Jumped out of bed and *ouch*. Still no running for me. This recovery seems like it's taking forever.

DRJen, I woudl think that once you have run that far, adding 2 more miles is really not much further. From everythign I have read about you, I know you can do it!!!!! : : :
RR: about 3 miles with many stops. Took C in the jogger stroller and ran about a mile with him non stop. THen dropped him at home and picked up J to ride his bike with me running. We drove to a nearby neighborhood where we could go further. I had to stop with him about a million times, and he finally fell and scraped his knee. So I took him home, and finally took the dog for a nice walk.

if any of you want a wonderful love story, "The Painted Veil". It made me cry a few tears, and I rarely cry. IT was great!!! I may have to put it on my Christmas list.

Jen~you can totally do it. Take it in parts, two 6 milers and a 5 miler. I can't wait to hear about it!!

I just got in from a 40 minute walk with my pup. What a beautiful day to be outside enjoying the sunshine. I can tell the summer is on the down swing though. It's been REALLY cool here at night.

HelloKitty ~ Sorry about that knee of yours.

tjsmama ~ Way to get that ride in!!

Jo ~ I hope you had a good time with your family.

I totally skipped my run yesterday and took my very pregnant friend to breakfast. : I think I may run in the morning after I drop the older girls at (gulp) school. I'll have plenty of time to do that before Zumba. I'm not sure I'm ready to be tied down to the old school routine again yet, but I must admit that the two older ones are on my last nerve right now. I swear I have a fourth kid named "not me". As in, "who left the milk out?" and ALL of the kids answer "not me". When I find that little devil, he's in a world of trouble.

If you have time, please keep my brother's family in your thought/prayers. Remember they took in two foster children (his wife's distant cousins) last year? The girls are having an incredibly difficult time and it looks as if the little one is going to have to be institutionalized. She is 11 and has been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. They know of at least 6 personalities and one is VERY violent. It is so sad. I have so much HATE in my heart for the people who did this to her. The older girl is adjusting a little better, but lies constantly (telling people my SIL locks in the closet for days, etc.). My brother feels he cannot be with her w/o another adult b/c he's afraid of what she might say about him. He feels very conflicted and like they've failed with the girls. My heart just breaks for all of them.

Paige - I have a 4th child too! Goes by the name "I didn't do it." Your brother and SIL are in my thoughts. What a tough situation. I hope they all can find healing and peace.

RR: Well, I didn't actually run. But, I did bike to a running store and got new running shoes. Does that count? The kid fitting me was kind of a lame duck, though. So, if the shoes don't work out, I'm going to be bringing them back! And, I was really pushing the pace on the bike. It was about 30 minutes there, and 30 minutes back. So, I'm feeling a bit better about the weekend activities!

HBM..I'm not ready for school either, but my kids are getting on my nerves too. I love them bunches, but you know! Will keep your brother in prayer.

I need to do my walk today at some point. I look forward to it actually.

My husband left his wallet in the buggy at Home Depot yesterday and when he went back to get it someone had already taken it. He called all day hoping that someone had turned it in, but it never happened. This afternoon the doorbell rang and I did not recognize the people, and had a headache and so simply did not answer the door. (I actually assumed they were religious people handing out information as this happens all the time in our neighborhood for some reason.) My dh found a note just a bit ago from these people, saying they had found his wallet and wanted to return it to him! I feel kind of stupid.

love that story. : : I've returned 3 lost wallets in my lifetime

: Just got back from my attempt at a run. Tonight was going to be my first consecutive 20 mins. in about a year. I walked a 5 min. warmup and as soon as I started running my right knee started hurting, about every other step or every third step. I thought about y'all's advice to Hello Kitty and turned around and came home. I did run most of the way home (3-4 mins.) and by the time I got home the pain was gone although I could still feel it IYKWIM.

This is my same knee that was doing this last summer, and continued to click going down stairs all through my couch potato pregnancy. This is the knee that I've promised myself I'm going to fix now that I'm no longer pregnant so I can return to running.

I think there's the possibility I need to be refitted for shoes post-partum, although I'm not putting too much stock into that as an easy fix because this had already started before I got pregnant. So, that's on my to-do list, but I think at this point I need to see someone who can help me figure out for sure what's going on.

All right, wise Dingos, which should it be - PT or orthopaedist? I have an orthopaedist recommendation but am not real sure what the PT scene is in my town.

Thanks. I am so : right now.
Ah eksmom that bites. Stupid knees :
Awww man, eksmom, that sucks . I've always gone to the orthopedist and then gotten a referral to a PT from them. Your description of "clicking" sounds like a possible cartilage issue. I'd go to the doc first (I know.... just tear up my NFL card!)

I'm finally feeling a teeny bit better. DH seems to have caught the same bug though, starting with that loggy feeling and lethargic exhaustion that plagued me all through the last two weeks. And he has a headache/neck pain. This is one wierd virus. Anyway, I went for a run tonight and actually completed 6.5 miles in exactly one hour. Of course, I felt like my lungs were on fire once I got home. Thirteen days til race day ~ I can do it, right?????
JayGee, you can definitely do it. I'm glad you got out for a run last night. You'll bounce back quicker than you think! And speaking of tearing up your NFL card, based on your description of that virus and your DH coming down with it, if I were you I would probably break out the chemical cleaners (i.e. clorox wipes) to make sure there was no way I'd get it again!

DrJen, congrats to Justin and YES - you can totally do 17 miles.

HBM, I will keep your brother's family in my thoughts/prayers. That has to be so hard. I can't imagine.

Sorry this is so short but we are trying to move back bedtime : and I gotta go do my part. Last night I dreamed that we had started going to bed at 5 AM.
jaygee~You're going to be totally fine, based on what you ran tonight! You've still got a week worth of good training you can get in, don't sweat it. Glad you're feeling better!

eks~ It honestly depends on the laws in your state and your insurance whether or not you can go skip the ortho and go straight to PT. If your state allows open access, you may be able to skip the ortho BUT you still need to check whether your insurance will pay for it if you don't have a prescription from the doctor. Most won't, whether or not your state allows it. So, in other words, you probably need to go to the ortho first. Oh, I so feel for you with the knee problems. It sucks!

rr~Yeah, not so much today. I was hoping to get out for a hike with H and DS so I could at least get some semi-exercise before letting DS out at the end to run/walk, but H kind of flaked on me. He didn't want to drive to any of the hiking areas, so we ended up walking the bike path near where we live. We walked 3 miles, the first 2 with DS in the Ergo. We let him walk for the last mile and it was a 47 minute mile.

absolutely, JayGee! It's almost mandatory to get some sort of horrible flu in the weeks before a big race, am I right? you will be just fine.

eks, I am so sorry, mama. i hope you get some help...in the meantime, maybe try the quad stretches on that side and such. how totally frustrating.

HBM, that is awful. I *hate* that they have been so badly hurt. and I was wondering about the pg friend....let me know how things go for her!

I WISH my kids were going back to school, or at least doing orientation or something. two more weeks. I think we're going to go see my mom next week just for some variety. but at least the olympics are on to distract us.

I ran 4.5 with my neighbor today but forgot to start my watch again at a stoplight : it felt like a good pace though, so I'm just going to go with 9:30 miles for the log

does anybody else have a girl crush on Dara Torres?
