Run with the Dingoes during the Dog Days of August - Page 44

I need to have some spandex when I run. Otherwise things chafe. So, some spandex shorts and a technical T are pretty standard running fare for me. When it's cooler, some running capris or tights. I'll even wear sweat pants, as tightness isn't as important when they can't ride up.

It sure is quiet around here. People must be out doing Labor Day activities.

Penelope (so I don't forget) - Good luck tomorrow!!! How's dd?
Thanks! Dd is sacked out on the couch ATM, but was up reading for several hours this morning and ate a decent breakfast. I'm pretty sure she won't want to run tomorrow but I'm hoping dh and the kids will come with me - I've never been to the place where the race is, don't know anyone, and it sucks to do a theme thing like a mud run all by yourself.
If any one has any good vibes to share, I could so use some this way. DD is a phase of contstant wildness and aggression, work politics are sucking the life out of me, I haven't run in 5 days, and I just got news that one of my close high school friends died in a car crash thursday He had a very tragic life, starting from when he was a baby, and then to have such a tragic end. I can't get it out of my head....

Hoping for a run tonite to clear the cobwebs.... Penelope have a great race! I am going to enjoy that and all the dingo running vicariously!

Callie~

penelope~Good luck to you and (hopefully) your DD tomorrow!

We made it safely (and mostly sanely) to Cincinnati. 3 hours sleep last night, though. I am :yawning:. No forward motion today, but hopefully a nice run in the morning!

callie~ I hope your run was therapeutic. I've been thinking of you a lot lately as I reach the peak of my training for my first marathon. I remember "watching" you run yours online and cheering along as you crossed the mile markers. My marathon is still over a month away and I'm already starting to get nervous.

penelope~Good luck tomorrow!!

Oh Callie, so sorry

We had a quiet Shabbos (Sabbath). As usual I ate too much (challah). All my good intentions during the week go straight south on Shabbos. Sigh. No running today. Goin' out early a.m. tomorrow with a friend/colleague on the boardwalk.

Re: what to wear when running. Even when I'm in an all-ladies' gym I still don't do sleeveless. I hate sleeveless because I feel like I sweat so much and it just gets sticky and icky. I even always wear an undershirt layer in the summer so I don't sweat through my outer shirt (no for whatever reason I don't sweat more). This seems to be a problem that developed since my first pregnancy and ever since (even though I'm not pregnant and my youngest who is 3 weaned a few months ago).

I found longer running shorts (for when I do an at-home video workout) also in the clearance aisle at Target. I also got nice capri workout pants there that I wear in the gym.

For the next month or so, I'm really going to focus on HIIT sessions when I work out. With some weight training and group fitness classes thrown in for variety. I'd like to see if that interval training can help me get over this plateau. And of course getting my eating/calorie consumption lower. I know that as I lose weight, I will be able to run longer while keeping my HR low enough that I don't bonk. I did HIIT this am for about 50 minutes (doing a 30-45 sec sprint every 4-5 minutes). 30 min on teh ellipt, 20 on the TM. The calories ticked off so much faster than when I stay constant. ANyway, that'smy forward motion update

Callie I have experienced something similar. It's sad on top of sad. Sorry, mama.

JenLove, we *must* meet up north this fall. (I know it's not up north to you ) My mom and I biked about 20 miles today while dad, dh and the kids fished off the pontoon boat. They just have a collection of old, crummy bikes, but it didn't matter, wasn't for speed, and was a gorgeous day. The legs felt great biking, and I could have stayed another day for sure, but the farm needed us back. And, truly, I was happy to be back once I was here. The chickens and sheep were happy to see me (and the cold water I brought), and the emus enjoyed their bath.

I'm starting to think the PT thing will be more stepping stone than done deal. I told dh today that if he gets his promotion, I'll quit the next day. So I guess we'll see what happens. I've been having trouble lately with the incessant, loud ticking of my biological clock. :

I think I am going to run tomorrow morning. One last morning run before Ramadan fasting begins. A good thing to do.

What I wear to run...like others have mentioned, I also have chafing issues, so I need to wear lycra, and I prefer pants. I wear a lot of capri length pants, though my two favorites are shot, and I have been running almost only on the TM, so I have recently been wearing a running skirt with just 4" shorts under (and bodyglide ). I wear short-sleeve tech shirts in summer because my arms are just as chafe-y as my thighs, and like JenLove, in winter, it's all about layers, with a poly or tech layer as a base, and extra socks. : I have returned home with ice on my eyelashes in past years. Might get back to that this year, as part of the complex "combat SAD" plan I may need to work out.

Callie

Jo ~ what a fun day for you and your family! Biological clock.... hmmmmm....

Runningwear ~ for me, it's basic running shorts, which I suppose are pretty short, but since I'm 5'2", they are still to my mid-thigh. Always a tech fabric shirt too.

Today I did 6.25 miles .

Callie, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss

It has been a quiet day here once I got home. For some unexplainable reason I felt the need for pizza for dinner. Well, OK, there was an explanation. I had been gone all day and just wanted to be able to spend some time catching up on paperwork w/o having to bother with dinner

Watched Nanny McFee while I worked on the computer after I got back from the Y and a nice swim. I'm really liking the Total Immersion drills. Have ordered myself some Zoomers and silicon nose clips. When I am doing the switches I keep getting far more water in my sinuses than is comfortable, and I really hate that feeling.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who shops at Target for my workout stuff. I really like the Champion line and Target is the only place around here that carries it. Although I did buy my bike shorts at Dick's, and did find some nice spandex capris at Penney's last year.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer that question so far.

I have gotten a nasty addiction to workout gear since I started running. During the hot hot parts of summer, I usually run in a sleeveless top or tank in a technical fabric. I sweat SO much I can't stand to not have a wicking fabric! Regular running shorts, although I did just buy my first running skirt on super sale but I haven't tried it yet. In cooler weather, I'll wear a short sleeve tech tee with either shorts or capris. When it starts getting cold, I layer! I bought running tights at the end of last winter on clearance, but in the past I've always worn my REI fitness pants (with my long undies for skiing if necessary) on the bottom with a long sleeve tech tee, fleece, and jacket on top. Ear warmers and running gloves, too, of course! I also picked up some Yaktrax at the end of last winter, so I'm really set for cold weather now!

bbm and jgmommo~You're in Yellow Springs, right? I'm actually going to be up there on Monday , although I don't think we'll have time for a meet-up. My sister (and BIL and niece) is/are in Columbus, and so we're going to meet at Young's Dairy since it's kind of half way between and hang out for a bit. She said we might go into town, too, and check out what she calls "cute shops."

Gaye - I am so close to downtown!
Callie, I'm so sorry mama.
Gaye, Young's dairy, while technically between Columbus and YS, is not half way. BBM is practically downtown, and I use Young's to know when to pay attention to not miss her street.

Sooooooooo sore from yesterday's early morning "gee, I'm not enjoying running, maybe I'll run bleachers" and then our lovely day in YS hiking in the Glen with fabulous dingo company.

You know the best part of a dingo commune would be? Our kids would have playmates that are all lovely, kind human beings even when their parents aren't watching.

Callie - I am so sorry for your loss. I hope your run did exactly what you needed.

Jo - Oh that sounds lovely. I'll be counting on a visit sometime this Fall. I'm also trying to manifest a trip to that store in Neenah, maybe after my baby shower in November. If I do, I'll be sure to share that info with you too.

Pretty much took yesterday off. We did take the dogs to the beach for a walk and Lizzy played fetch with us in the water. Then after supper I got motivated and started a batch of homemade spaghetti sauce and made muffins for this morning's breakfast. Now if only my tummy would feel a little better.

Today I am going to church with a friend (a new church in the area with a young crowd) and then I'm going to a baby shower. She's cloth diapering, breastfeeding, babywearing, and all that fun stuff, so I can't wait to talk to her and see her gifts!!

No, but it's kind of half-way between Cincinnati and Columbus. Sorry, I didn't phrase that very clearly. In the past, we've typically met at the outlet malls, but now that the kids are a little older and don't really want to sit in strollers while we shop, we thought the dairy might be fun. Plus, ice cream! : BBM, I'll pm you when we get our timing for tomorrow figured out. Maybe if it fits into your schedule and you have nothing better to do, you can stop by and say hi at least.

rr~3 blissfully stroller-free, slightly hilly, slightly humid (oh, I know, not for you flatlanders ) miles! I'm definitely slower than I was at the beginning of the summer, which makes me not want to do the half-marathon in October, but we'll see.

Time to get showered and then take DS off to FIL's before we get ready for a surprise birthday party this afternoon followed by some awesome fireworks at Riverfest tonight! :
