Aydin Orion Arrives on Due Date!

On July 27 I gave birth to 9 lb. 7 oz. Aydin Orion - all the midwives had guessed he would be between 7-8 lbs. He is huge...and let me know that during labor (I am very much not huge...this was a real surprise). The first stage of labor was really quick. I had been 1cm dilated on Friday with no noticable contractions until 5:30am Sunday. By 11:00am, when we arrived at the birth center, I was already 9cm! I was feeling overwhelmed by how fast it had become so intense...but thought "well, he's bound to come quickly now"......wrong! I pushed for about 4 hours....I thought there was no way I was gonna make it...it felt like a continual lack of progress despite all the pain and pushing. At one point, when I was on the birth stool, there was a "pop!" - I heard it and felt it. What was that pop? I was to find out a couple hours later when the nurse tried to make me walk to the bathroom. I couldn't walk!

I had a separation of a ligament at the front of the pelvis, and then the bones of the pelvis got misaligned (that's my understanding of it). I have been confined to my bedroom since coming home. I use a rolling office chair to get to the bathroom. The bedroom is up on our third floor...I got here by going up the stairs backwards on my butt, with someone helping me to move my legs up each stair.

The good news is that I'm seeing a physical therapist next Thursday who specializes in post-partum pelvic problems. She says I should be able to walk following one or two sessions with her.

The other good news, of course, is Aydin, who is just gorgeous and amazing. We've been grappling this week with a little too much weight loss, breastfeeding issues (already had a lactation consultant at the house) and jaundice....but his weight seems to be stabilizing and his bilirubin numbers are coming down.
And gotta love that sleep deprivation....he doesn't really let us sleep until about 5:00am or 6:00am...today we got to sleep from 4:45am-10:00am, which felt awesome!

Wow, that isn't a birth injury you hear about every day; I hope you will heal from it soon. Welcome baby Aydin!
