I need to find a birthday book, or two, for our nephew who is turning 13. He is very interested in weapons and military history. His parents do not permit books to do with magic, questioning authority, religions other than Christianity, or any sexual themes. Basically anything that has ever been banned or questioned for any reason is not allowed. That lets out pretty much any age-appropriate book that I, personally, have ever read.
I am having a hard time finding something that will hold his interest that fits into his parents' requirements and simultaneously fits into my own values of not glorifying or trivializing war or its consequences.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Fiction, non-fiction, anything? Thanks!
sarah
