Insurance Question

My midwife was supposed to have her billing service submit a bill to my insurance (Tufts PPO) about 5 weeks ago. I logged in to Tufts' website today to see if there was any info about the claim, and there's no claim listed for the birth. It shows that they've paid for lab tests and whatnot that I've had done since the birth, but no actual claim for the birth.

So, I'm confused. Do claims normally not show up until after they've decided whether they'll pay or not? I know I could just call and ask, but Tufts isn't really supposed to cover homebirths and we're trying to slip it through without them noticing, so I don't want to bring their attention to it, you know? Also.. my midwife is out of the country until the end of August, so I can't call her to find out.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

That's unusual. Even if they're investigating whether or not they're going to pay it, it should have been entered in the system and be reported to you as "in process". Do you have a way to contact the billing agent directly since your midwife is unavailable?
