my 15 yo dd went with some friends to a release party at a book store.
it was all teenage girls there.
it was so funny.
my dd had painted a black t-shirt and it says "team edward" on the front and some other things on the back.
there were several groups of girls there with painted t-shirts that they had painted with the same words together.
it was funny.
they had games and things at the store.
she did not want me to stay.
i dropped them off and another mom brought them home to my house after midnight.
i have read part of the book - about half.
she has read about two thirds of it.
i taught middle school reading for many years.
i love children's literature.
i have considered going back to school to be a children's librarian.
anyway, i am enjoying the book, but i will have to let my dd finish it before i can read the rest.
this last one has some unexpected twists.

I loved it!!!! I finished it last night - well, at 1:20 this morning!
So many twists and turns. Some I wasn't even expecting!!!!!!
I hope everyone else enjoys it too!!

Spoilers!

I loved it. Bella was not annoying. Edward was not annoying. Jacob was not annoying.

The end was a bit cliche, and I hated the Jacob POV interlude, but overall I thought it was an excellent book, and is by far the best of the series.

bit of a spoiler

may be a spoiler!

I enjoyed the first three books, but I won't be reading this one, because it sounds like a spectacular failure, at least according to the Amazon reviews. (I've never seen a book get so many "1" ratings on Amazon before!! )

And I'm :Puke at the thought of the Nessie situation. It reeks too much of pedophilia.
Bought it but haven't read it yet - I just discovered this whole series like 2 weeks ago and am half way done with book 3. These characters have been my whole world for the past 2 weeks! The amazon reviews are terrible for book 4 and it makes me sad. I didn't realize this would be the last book, I thought it would continue for a while. But the woman at Borders said she was loving the book so far, so we shall see.

Don't let the Amazon reviews fool you. Why would you not want to read it and evaluate it for yourself? I really liked the book, so not everyone thought it was bad.

I'm done with the first part: Bella (spoilers included).

A while ago we had a crazy guesses about the fourth book going around here, and one of mine turned out right! She is pregnant...

Anyway, I don't know about others, but I am loving it so far.

Because I'm not going to spend the money or time on it now.

127 ratings of only 1 star? I've NEVER seen a book that bad on Amazon, and I look at a lot of books.

Seriously, it gets better!

As for "the Nessie thing" it's not weird or creepy in the way it's written.

Check the Wheel of Time series. I think that one wins for 1 star reviews!

Honestly I don't know what they are complaining about. It's not a bad book. I read a lot, too.

Actually, at the moment it has 3 stars after 433 reviews on Amazon.

DSD (15) and I went as well... It was fun. You got to see t-shirts with saying like: "Team Edward, because he sparkles", and "Real men sparkle".

There was nail painting, drawing, dress up, trivia, etc. We are taking turns reading... Can you tell it's her turn right now? Otherwise, what in the world would I be doing on-line?! heh

I thought it was really good, though I can also see why it might get bad reviews. I don't want to make too many spoilers, so I'll be vague, but the whole series is wish fulfillment for women and girls and so the last book had to have all the weird twists and turns and gross stuff so that it could include all the things that would be important to women. Also, the author was married young with children and so you can see that influence in the plot.

Jacob will be having sex with the child of his former love interest, and he knows that from the child's birth. Disgusting. I don't care how it's written.

Meyer set up a love triangle with Bella/Jacob/Edward in book 3. And rather than choosing a winner and a loser, she kept both men (and their sexual appetites) happy by basically sacrificing a young girl's future. Again, disgusting.

(It really reminds me of the FLDS culture. And yes, I know that Meyer is LDS, not FLDS. I'm not saying she's FLDS. I'm just saying it reminds me of that culture.)

This is NOT a series my pre-teen daughter will be reading. Too many bad messages about how boys should get what they want regardless of what the girl wants.

Did the Quil/Claire imprinting bother you as well?

I guess I'm just not that invested in the moral ambiguities of fictional immortal characters. Because they all live forever, I think the mortal trappings put on most relationships don't apply.

But fine if you don't want your kid to read it. I'm not too worried about kids reading this series. It's not real life, it's fiction.

I wholeheartedly agree that nobody was annoying!! I re-read the first three (for the fourth time, *blush*) this week, and being formerly VERY Team-Edward, I found myself getting annoyed with his protectiveness in those 3 books. And annoyed with Jacob. And annoyed with Bella. Not enough to quit reading, but enough to feel a little wary going into Breaking Dawn, despite how excited I had been for it up till then.

But I am just... WOW!! I *loved* Breaking Dawn! I hated the first twist with the pregnancy (in my mind, it was just setting things up to absolutely RUIN the storyline, how I wanted it to end!), and while I didn't especially enjoy reading from Jacob's perspective for such a chunk of the book, I really think it came out better that way, than it would have been from anyone else's perspective. I still felt compelled to read, and definitely touched by the emotion. I wasn't annoyed at all.

Favorite moments, anyone? I *adored* Bella's first moments as a vampire. It completely made me feel ecstatic! Which is odd, maybe, should I really feel that way for someone giving up humanity? But I loved it! I was right there when she made the leap from the window and then over the river. I felt so powerful right along with her, so thrilled with her very existence! I loved the way her personality came out, and it was still her, but it was a BETTER her, a happier her, and Edward's over protectiveness was a thing of the past... They just FIT together, a perfect pair. And I totally laughed out loud at the Nessie/Loch Ness Monster bit! I am happy the way that it turned out with Jacob and Nessie, that Bella could be free of the romantic interest, that Edward is also happy with Jacob's inclusion into their family.

I expected Alice's return in the end, although I wasn't sure how it would help anything. I'm glad it ended happily, though I certainly wouldn't have minded a pretty serious fight (of course, I would have hated any Cullens or wolves to die). But I was thrilled, absolutely thrilled, gushingly pleased and overjoyed, with the way the story came to an end. : Bella was an absolute heroine in my mind, and everyone became a better version of themselves. It was all magic, to me. I want to read it all over again!!

And of course, I will never read the series with the same perspective again, seeing Bella as weak or Edward as over protective, or Jacob's relationship with Bella as tragic. It's all part of the happy ending, now.

I loved the pregnancy twist. It came so far out of left field (I don't read spoilers) that it just shocked me completely.

In addition, it gave Edward an out for taking Bella's humanity by force. I had always been a little leery of how they were going to get around Edward's fierce determination NOT to make Bella a vampire. It bothered me that the only reason he agreed to do it was because she was such a whiner about it. Sure the pregnancy/near death experience was a bit contrived, but it satisfied Edward's need to be the savior and it worked for me.

My favorite moment was when Bella told Edward she thought she was pregnant and he went into a catatonic state for a while. There he was, Mr. Protective, totally thrown for a loop. It cracked me up.

I also loved how Edward and Bella became real partners after her transformation. Once his protector role was extinguished I began to appreciate what their relationship really was.

Also I loved in general how the characters matured. I think this is why so many people hated it... it was written from a much more adult perspective, and that stripped away some of the sappy romance side of it. However, it worked for me.

I thought it was a great book. I was glad that Quil had previously imprinted on a child so that we were all not totally skeeved about jacob imprinting later! Having had an introduction to the imprinting process with Quil, and having it so thoroughly explained when it happned to Jacob, I thought it was well done.

You dont have a choice who you imprint. I think the imprinting element itself is disturbing to a lot of people who see it as the girl having no choice, not unlike arranged marriage.

I had a lot of favorite moments. The middle of the book where the big stuff all happens at once is probably the part I keep coming back to the most. I enjoyed Bella and Edward as partners too! I loved getting to know other vampires and their stories, I loved the development of Jacob away from Sam and the pack, etc. There were some great moments!!

I never have cared about how many stars any book or movie has gotten. If it appeals to me, Id rather make my own decisions about it. I am glad I read the series, and I thought Breaking Dawn was a great book.
