Is this a napping strike or the end of naps?

My ds has not napped in 4 days. We haven't been doing anything really out of our normal routine. He had surgery last Tuesday for an inguinal hernia but napped as usual for 3 days following that so I don't think it is related. He spends the last afternoons cranky and accident prone and today I noticed that he has very dark circles under his eyes. He is still going to be at the same time and does not desire an earlier bedtime. I have been putting him to bed at naptime everyday and he will stay up there and play for a little while but does not sleep. Is this it? Are naps over? Or is it something that will pass? He seemed extra tired at naptime today but still did not nap. Any advice?

How old is he? I'm asking because my daughter is going toward no nap and she is 25 months old.

He's 27 months. He is napping today though, thank goodness.
