Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach VA options?

Thread Starter
I am a Navy wife and we are moving to Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA next year. We had our son in Kansas with a CNM in an attempted homebirth. We had to transfer at 8 cm due to thick mec and heart rate decel, probably caused by the tight true knot in his cord.

Husband and I are planning our second next fall for a hopeful 2 year gap, and we were wanting to try a homebirth or birthcenter birth again. It'd be Tricare, of course, which will be problematic.

What are my options in that area? I am an L&D nurse and have worked the Portsmouth MTF L&D before, and that's not the atmosphere I want.

Appreciate any and all info!

As a Navy wife, who was stationed in Hampton Roads for eight years, and a doula/childbirth educator I would recommend Kristi Zittle. http://www.hisgraceherbals.com/ She is a great midwife, and a wonderful person.

There is also Blessed Birth Services, but I have mixed feelings about them. I, personally, would go with Kristi before BBS.

Good luck with the move and TTC.

I live elsewhere in Virginia and I found my mw through the site www.commonwealthmidwives.org. You send them an email including your location and any relevant information, and any midwife who sees your posting and is available in your area will e-mail you. I got a lot of responses, and some very helpful references.
