I work as an aid on a maternity floor and try to encourage moms to breastfeed as much as possible. Today i walked in to get vitals on a 4 day post c-section mom who was bottlefeeding. She asked me if we had extra bras because she forget hers at home and her breasts hurt so much. So i said "no we dont, i'm sorry - how is breastfeeding going? are you in pain?" I knew she was bottle feeding but i always act like i assume everyone is breastfeeding.
So she says....."Oh, well I'm bottle feeding, but actually....i wanted to ask if i could change my mind and try nursing." UMMMM YESSSSSSSSSS!!!
:
I paged the latation consultant, informed her RN, pulled the kid out of the nusery and spent 50 - YES 50 min - getting her set up, comfy and getting him latched on. It took forever and we tried like every single position, but finally i had her lay down and he latched right on and nursed for 45 min. This was at 10 am and when i left at 7pm she hadnt given him another drop of formula.
I AM SOOOOO HAPPY
