How to go no-poo with kids...

My name is Holly, and it's been 2 weeks since my last shampoo....
Wow, I still can't beleive I broke my shampoo addiction. Anyway, My 4 year old has gorgeous hair and we've always used baby shampoo on it. But its getting very long now, and after going no poo myself, I'd like to try it out on her. I wonder though if she's put up with the BS... and I'm fairly confident that the ACV will not fly with her. Her hair also tends to tangle easily, even though it was trimmed recently, so I'm very scared to give up conditioner for fear of the battle that will ensue when combing times comes around...

Anyone have an hints?

I did the opposite, I went no-poo with the girls first and i going to after i'm done with the shampoo/conditioners bottles left.

Tonight, i did their second no-poo wash and rinse and it went well. I was worried about their hair being tangle and their hair weren't. The hair looks pretty good. It was also easy to brush their hair afterwards.

I've always been interested in this, how does it work? With adults, I mean.

DD never lets me wash her hair (she's almost 4 and still has cradle cap ), so I don't suspect it wold be a problem for her.

There seem to be lots of variations on how to do the no-poo.. I'm lazy though, so I mix 1 tsp BS w/warm water and massage into my scalp. Rinse, and then apply a mix of ACV & water. I usually let it sit for a few minutes and the rinse.. seems to be working so far.. I have some EO coming in the mail soon so I can mix it up a little...

I may just try it out on my daughter tomorrow... maybe she can be reasoned with

Unless DS has gotten super grungy we only use water and he has gorgeous hair! We've been doing this for about a year and a half now. I'd say give it a go!

I do BS on my girls with little problem. Sometimes they complain that I am scrubbing their scalp too hard, but that's about it. I stopped using vinegar afterwards and was afraid that our hair would be so tangly afterwards, but it is not. I also "wash" my hair with honey a few days after the BS to keep it from getting too dry. This also helps keep it clean longer. I haven't done the honey on the girls yet, other than washing their faces with it.

I'm trying this for me and my kids too...I'm happy to report that my son (almost 2) usually has a terrible time with the hair washing - even the tear free stuff makes him cry and rub his eyes...but for the last 2 nights I've tried BS (well he got really dirty today, thus the 2nd day of washing) and no crying and he smells great!

The only think I don't like is the vinegar rinse - I can skip it for DS but DD has such tangly hair that the BS wasn't working on it's own...so I tried JUST the CV rinse - which makes the tangles go but she smells like a chemistry lab - am I not doing it right?

Anyway, it's working great for us! I've been using the no 'poo balls one of the other posters here was suggesting - a combo of BS, honey, water and EO for good smell that you make into a paste and then allow to air dry until you need them!

peace,
robyn

Once her hair dries you shouldn't smell the vinegar anymore. It doesn't take much vinegar...we use it at a rate of: 1tbsp ACV per litre of water. It smells vinegary 'till your hair is almost dry then it's gone. I also infuse ours with herbs which helps with the smell. It doesn't eliminate the smell, but helps a little bit and is beneficial for your hair. You could try some of these: lavender, rosemary, sage, horsetail, lemon balm, nettle.

we don't do much shampooing here already - maybe once a week? I'm intrigued by the notion that it's a "thing to do". I just thought it was better for your hair not to wash it all the time. (same with baths) I shower/shampoo about every 3 days.

We do need something for detangling. I've used loreal detangler spray, which I hate, but it works. Is there a way to use vinegar that way? diluted in a spray bottle? do you use apple cider or distilled white? They will not appreciate the vinegar smell, even though it does go away. I happen to LIKE the way it smells. But, since they don't, can you add an EO that won't clash with the vinegar?

thanks!
