Mold in our basement...

How do I get rid of it? We are currently moving out of this dumpy rental with a yucky damp moldy basement. I am worried that they will charge us for the mold removal. I would like to get rid of at least most of it but I have no idea how. I have the dehumidifier going, but it doesn't help much. I am having to throw out lots of our stuff, too.

What should I do? I also don't want to bring mold to our new house (which is super nice)

Scrub it with bleach.

Yep, bleach takes it right off. Open all the windows, turn on a fan, and spray it all with a slightly dilute bleach, or go buy Tilex for mold.

Tea Tree oil is untifungal, but it is too expensive to use for cleaning entire basement. I would move out ASAP, and I would do it now where you can sun bake everything that sat in your basement before you move them into your new dig. For now, I would air out the basement as much as you can, by using fan, and get more dihumidifiers. Leave space between your stuff, away from wall for better air flow; raise boxes with bricks or prank to avoid mold to grow.

We are getting rid of a lot of the stuff and the rest we will let sit in the sun. I am going to go through the boxes in the next few days. Our landlord did say that they would take care of the mold in the building, but I am sure that means just wiping it out, not sealing the basement. Yuck. I am so glad we only have 10 days left.

Thanks for the help and suggestions

glad to hear that you will be getting out of there in few days!

In mean time, drink a lot of filtered water, may be with fresh lemon juice. Going to Sauna is also a good idea!! In good health!
