From what I've seen Hillyer did a couple editions culminating in a 10 vol.set of all the different continents plus art and artists and architecture.Lots of black and white photos and written in his own wonderful way of speaking to young people without talking "down"

I've never found the educators guide at a resonable price. It's been a wonderful resource and read-out- loud over the years.Great fodder for lapbooks and unit studies.

Get the newer versions published by Calvert.

I know most hsers prefer the nostalgia of old books, but the older version of this series really needs to be tweaked to accomodate little ears.

In A Child's History of the World, there are a lot of racial slurs, and statements indicating whites to be the superior race, etc.

I tried so hard to verbally edit the racism and stereotypes, but gave up and bought the new version that has been "cleaned up", but not dumbed down. KWIM?

As far as A Child's History of Art series, again, the Calvert version is better. It has a separate companion book with color pics. The actual books still maintain some of the black & white of the older series and the glossy pages of the new edition is far more aesthetic.
