Nose picking to the point of bleeding

Thread Starter
DD's nosepicking has gone from occasional to all the time. At first she seemed like she did it as a soothing habit, since I only saw her doing it when she was a bit nervous or in an unfamiliar situation.

The last few days has been constant and it's to the point where she's having an almost constant bloody nose. Nothing has happened to cause any major upset or change so I'm not sure why this has accelerated like it has.

We have a humidifier in the bedroom to help at night since it is so dry here. I've tried a bit of oil, vasoline, etc to help sooth it but she picks it right out.

help?
Oh- DD is 21 months

kind of OT but I have the same problem but with my own nose. I was taking probiotics a while back which seemed to help a bit but it didn't help it totally. I've had this problem for years and I've gone days without picking at my nose but it'll still be irritating and have blood inside.

I've considered putting something irritating on my fingers to curb myself when my fingers touch my nose - it's such a habit that I don't even know I'm doing it.

I am not sure I can be any help either, but I wanted to post some hugs and support.

DD went through a phase of doing this. The only thing that helped was to give her something she could carry around and do with her hands to distract her. Sometimes her amber necklace (worn around her neck) would be enough. I also took one of those things that lets you clip a binky to a baby's clothes and put her binkies on it. She had one in her mouth and one on the clippy thing. I know binkies aren't popular around here, but it distracted her enough from her nose that I didn't care.

Hope this helps.

Ds's nose was bleeding last night from his picking

He also like to wipe his boogers on me, which I obviously don't like : I keep saying we have to put them in a tissue or the garbage, but he doesn't want to
And when he's not putting them on me he's eating them ::

I would say to keep the nails trim and filed. Also, redirect to something else when you see that happening. Nose picking is pretty normal at this age, but if it concerns you, see your ped.
