But that is synthetic vitamin D3 unfortunately . Also, vitamin D works synergistically with vitamins A and K -- CLO contains vitamin A and we get vitamin K from butter oil.

what do you folks think of the mumps outbreak on the lower mainland?

anyone watching the obama's presidential speech?

The mumps made me think of the pox, and I started hoping to hear about pox parties for this fall....

The mumps.... aaaaghhh! As with most of the decisions I've made about my childrens' health, I feel underconfident and not as informed as I would like to be. Neither child has had the MMR vax, and my reading about mumps leads me to believe that it's a relatively safe childhood illness. I would rather they had it as children, and get lifelong immunity plus avoid some of the side effects that are more common as adults.

Weather:
I'm pretty bummed about this weather. I was away for ten days last week, and feel like I left Vancouver during gorgeous summer and came back to bleak winter.

I wish it would come this way. I'd like my kids to get it now, so I don't have to worry about them catching it later in life - especially ds2. I wonder if dh ever had it. I know I did.

My first thought was that I hope it gets out this way & more people (kids) have a chance at natural immunity. I do have some qualms about DS contracting this or chicken pox because of his compromised immune system from being on Prednisone, but if he does get something, we'll deal with it as it comes.

My second was to wonder about the rate of autism in these 'Christian fundamentalist groups' that are not vaccinating. It would be interesting to hear if they have significantly lower rates even though that could be attributed to other things...

Is anyone going to the 'Not Back To School' Picnic in New West on Tuesday? It looks like I will be going, even though my kids are going to school...for now

It just so happened that we got Cayden is first vax on Thursday that is the MMR. Not because of the outbreak but we wanted to start with something that was cultured in egg, because he has a mild allergy to it and we want to see if he has a reaction.
I don't want Cayden to contract the illness while I'm pregnant, so that was a big concern too.

There's no way to post in the Tribal areas. I PM'd the mod.

I did a lot of research again on mumps when we were planning to live in Zambia for 3 months, as it was the only vax preventable illness still prevalent there. I determined that we were still ok with it if our kids got it -- I also read that the whole "mumps makes boys sterile" thing was a myth -- anyone know about that? It's a little scary to think of my kids getting it, because I do know that some people do have complications from it (specifically breathing complications) but for my kids, I'd still rather them get the mumps than the mumps vax. In some ways I'd like for them to get it, and get the natural immunity, but I'm not sure I'd really seek it out like we did with the pox. I guess if it's coming back, it's a good idea to just get it over with when they're young... though we're off to NZ, so it doesn't exactly apply to us unless we're infected in the next couple of weeks!

I want to thank Ksenia again for hosting the going away party -- it was really nice to see everyone again! I'd like to see everyone more often, but I'm glad we have this forum to keep in touch.

we had an insanely busy but fun weekend, and spent all day just lounging, which we badly needed!! back to the crazy tomorrow!

Yes, thanks to Ksenia for doing such a great job of hosting the get-together on Friday. It was so nice to chat with you all in person, and to wish the travellers "good luck!".

Oh, and y'all missed a great time tomato canning today! It was hard work with Robugmum and I doing roughly 100lbs of tomatoes in about 8 hours with "homework" left still to do. The girls and I had lots of fun!

FINALLY I can add :

I'm hoping to see some of you Hlers at the picnic tomorrow...umm, where is it and when is it exactly?

I caught bits at the party Friday, it's Jericho, but I don't really know my way around there well, so tips, directions parking fees would all be helpful. Also do you plan to swim there? I have life jackets for both my kids...
