python hose vs. RV or garden hose?

The birth pool resources sticky is great! I was asking my midwife about using a python aquarium hose, and her concern was if it will stand up to the hot water. I am guessing it would be fine since it sounds like many have used it, but I just want confirmation. Her recommendation is an RV hose (lead free) or a garden hose, not really recommended because of lead. Python hose should be sufficient, right (and cheaper too?) Thanks!

I agree w/your midwife. I had my homebirth last Sunday. Right in the middle of filling our pool our hose busted. I nearly had a heart attack. Thank goodness my husband could fix it. But I would definitely get a lead free RV hose.

We have filled our pool twice and neither time did the python hose break. I don't think DH puts it on high hot water though. He does mostly hot and throws a couple post of boiling water in at the end to get it up to temperature...

Our Python held up to the hot water on full blast just fine No idea how it compares cost-wise, though.

We use a python on our aquarium and it handles hot water great. We didn't use it for the birth (other than the fact that it had been used to siphon fish poo) because our midwives already had a hose for the tub we rented from them. I don't think that a Python hose would be cheaper. Our RV hose cost about 5 bucks and the Python cost around 30.

We used the Python hose, and had no problems with it. Our hot water heater was on max, too. The waterbed adaptors are really helpful and convenient, so I highly recommend them.

had no problem with python hose, plus it can be used to empty pool also!

I just bought an RV hose. It was $9 at wal-mart.

I clean fish tanks professionally and will be using a python hose. I know they can withstand steaming hot water temps and you just cant beat how easy they make emptying a vessel.

I've always used a garden hose. Never had a problem with it. We use a brand new one and I don't think that leaching is a problem.

I used a RV/boat hose... no problems with hot water (and my water heater was turned up all the way).

I was wondering about hot water, too. I was just looking at the RV hose at Wal-Mart, and it says on there not to use hot water through it. I wondered if it was just that brand, or an over-precaution on all the hoses.

My midwife actually recommended the python hose.

I just have a regular garden hose, though.

We're using an RV hose (white with blue stripe) recommended by our MW.

I just bought an 50 ft. RV hose for $21.99 at Ace, and Home Depot has 25ft ones for $12.
