Speech pathologists in New Orleans area?

Does anyone know of a good speech pathologist in the N.O. area? Or, any to stay away from? Our ped. is recommending speech therapy for DS.

My son went to Michael Norman for a while and we really liked him- the only reason we stopped was that he was not on our insurance. Insurance has since changed and I am hoping to go back in Sept. His office is near Lakeside Mall, he has a number of people working with him and they really work to find the right situation for each child. Also check out Children's hospital- depending on what your child needs. My son did not need articulation. He has Asperger's and he needed pragmatics of language. A good friend of mine named Bridgit Cambais does speech therapy at Children's and she is really good with articulation and those issues. Good luck!

At this point, I'm looking for good and inexpensive speech pathologists!

NOt sure how old your child is, but he may qualify through the public school system. IF he is not yet school age, contact the school board about early intervention. Even if he attends a private school, he can get services. It is free and better than nothing. My son didn't qualify, but the person who evaluated him sent me a bunch of things to do with him, which did help some. You may also be able to find a sliding scale type of deal through Children's Hospital.

COst was a factor for us, so when we were seeing Michael Norman he only went for 30 minutes at a time. Many insurances cover it, but limit the amount of visits or the coverage doesn't kick in until deductible is covered. WHo is your insurance through?

My 7 year old gets speech through the Jefferson Parish school system. Contact Child Search and have your child evaluated. I also second Michael Norman - he was recommended by our audiologist for our son that is hearing impaired/dyspraxic but he goes to a school that offers speech 5 days a week so we haven't gone that route for him.
