He better be sorry! What I'm wondering though is if H & M has officially addressed this. I'm dying to hear the outcome.

What a relief to be here, I've been in this discussion elsewhere and it turned into a debate over women should have the right to publicly BF....and that women who do are "militant".

Guess I'm militant!

another member on the boards mentioned that CBC was working on this story.

looks like it just went up a little while ago:

I can't believe they actually pushed her into a change room!!! I think some heads will be rolling over this one! Yay for CBC!

I'm also impressed by the positive story the CBC has written. We all know how the media can spin things and make breastfeeding out to be dirty and those who do it must have loose morals. So kudos to the CBC. I really wish I could be there tomorrow.

I just LOVE that H&M chose a grad student in women's and gender studies to pick on! Ha!

I think the hubby said that they were pushing her into it and that's when he got mad.

I think what the OP should do is make a very clear statement at the beginning of her post of what is permitted in this post to avoid getting it pulled again. Not everyone knows and not everyone has seen the previously pulled threads.

Great article! I wish the US had such clear language in every state.

OMG, I love CBC..

I was just listening to BC Almanac, and they did an AWSOME, BF friendly show for over 30 min! They had women calling in telling their stories about breastfeeding in public, both issues they'd had and sweet stories (like the Older Gentlemen who told one woman 'You are doing a wonderfull service for your child, I wish more young women would Brestfeed their babies').

Anyway, the show ended with the Interviewer telling about trying to feed his baby expressed breastmilk from a bottle while his wife was out one time, and when his son wouldn't take it he cut a hole in his shirt and put the nipple through to see if that would help, lol! Then he says, 'It's not just the breastmilk though, it's the closeness too, you can't replace Mum!"

Nice, you go CBC

Unfortunately I missed the first 10 min. or so and didn't hear the discussion about the H&M situatuion, but the talk-back section of the show was awsome, and the obvious support the station was giving to normalising Breastfeeding was really nice to hear

Oooh that sounds wonderful. I wonder if there will be a audio clip on their website in the coming days?

I'm really sorry this happened to the woman and her baby. So unnecessary. Reading the reader comments after the article saddened me too. So many people don't get it, why it's important, etc. I am particularly frustrated at the "why didn't she just move" thread of comments, as well as the comments that she was out for financial gain. Having been in her shoes, publicly, I know how that kind of scrutiny feels, but also how proud you can feel of yourself when you do stand-up. These stories popping up in the media mean that the issue is out there, and that people hear, once again, that breastfeeding is a right, anytime, anyplace.

no, I know... from the original letter *which shall not be posted here* she never mentions being physically maneuvered, and the hubby's quote...which I'll paraphrase, so as to be more confusing and less accurate, but which will not violate mdc's rules, he said something like they were pushing her into it, and that's when I got mad ...or something like that... the sense I got from both of those things was that they were definitely physically intimidating her, but not necessarily physically "pushing" her, ya know? I could be wrong, but I just don't want his words to be taken literally if he meant them figuratively... maybe someone who knows the mama could ask for clarification? or someone on the facebook group?

back to my laying....

CarolynnMarilynn, I don't know if you are a regular reader of cbc.ca news, but the comments posted by readers afterwards are typically infuriating, so I try to never read them. I found them very discouraging as well regarding the nurse-in, full of the typical anti-breastfeeding propaganda. The comments tend to make Canadians out to be illiterate morons, are frequently very off-topic, and extremely ill-informed. And I don't believe those who comment represent the majority of cbc readers. I will be at the nurse-in in spirit...sigh...I miss BC.

I've been hearing about this on the radio and on the morning news multiple times! On the news they even said, "If you want to participate in the nurse in, it's at x time at y place!"

So how'd it go? I can't wait to read the reports...
