Kind of put it in perspective for me

But see it's comments like that which can be really discouraging to a mom who doesn't want to be nursing 24/7. That comment, said to me in hormonal new mom state, would have made me feel like a failure when in fact any new mom who's sticking with the rough first weeks/months of nursing should be commended.

For me, this qualifies as as something that another nursing mother can say to me, but not something a stranger or non-nursing mother could say without me being offended. Between friends, with a common mothering experience, it's kind of an inside joke, if you will. But from a nurse, or some lady in the supermarket, not cool.

I've always LOVED this quote....

Quote:
“You are not a pacifier; you are a Mom. You are the sun, the moon, the earth, you are liquid love, you are warmth, you are security, you are comfort in the very deepest aspect of the meaning of comfort…. but you are not a pacifier!” — by Paula Yount

A pacifier is a substitute for the breast, not the other way around.

I completely agree!! I think we have associated pacifier with the detached ones. I think it is how you use and say the word. I am proud to bring peace to my dd who just turned 4yo today!

If I'm in a goofy mood I also might be apt to say "No, Vin Diesel is The Pacifier. I'm a mom."

I usually say, "I'd rather her learn that comfort comes from people, not plastic."
