AUGUST crafty mamas thread

Howdy all! Welcome to August!: What's everybody up too?

I bought some lovely handpainted yarn on my vacation to Lopez Island and I'm currently knitting up a scarf for my hubby. So my Fall/Winter knitting is officially underway. I'm toying with the idea of moving past my fear of patterns (and sock yarn) and trying those magic loop socks from knitpicks. Anyone try those?

yes I use the harmony options from knitpicks, they are awesome. I never have to worry about having the wrong size needles cause I have them all. I do everything in the round on magic loop which I LOVE.

Yeah for August! It means my baby is coming soon!! Like any day now

Still nothing since those contractions a week ago but I am holding on for the 8th...after that, the sooner the better because my midwife goes on vacation on the 15th and I WILL not let anyone else deliver this baby, so he HAS HAS HAS to come by then!!

I have tried just about everything at this point to incite him to come out..ARGH!!

I've been knitting for about a year now and am still using cheap needles. Is there much of a difference with more quality needles?
I did get a set of knit picks DPNs from kat. I haven't used them yet but LOVE the colors!

I get to sew a package for a little 3 year old boy, dress ups. I have a few ideas but I thought I would get some more. Andrea just close your eyes

I was thinking fantasy, knight type stuff.

Or a bugs bag. A few simple bug dress-ups, a bee, a ladybug??

And it is 2 minutes to 08/08/08 so COME ON and send over your labor energy, light, vibes, prayers, dreams, however you roll my way to have this baby soon!!!

Just waiting right now..the midwife is coming to check me and sweep me if needed. They come in waves of intensity, but nothing really timeable at this point

Oddly enough, they are worse when I lie down and all but stop when I walk around! I thought it was the reverse..lol..but they are starting to get more regular and so I patiently await the arrival of my "magic fingers" midwife(her words...lol) to get things really moving!

I think we are going to walk the mall for a while(it is kind of cold and rainy out otherwise we would walk outside!)

So keep coming with the labor vibes!! Soon mamas!!

Beans~ Are you an aspiring midwife? Me too.: I've accompanied a local midwife in my area a bit, but am on hold (again) with such a young baby at home.

And back OT, I'm working on a little felted purse that I think is going to be lovely for the winter. I'll try to remember to post photos when I'm done.

Oh! And as for cheap needles vs others, I've only ever used cheapo bamboo needles from Joanns. They suit me fine, but I've never had more expensive ones to compare. Well, I did get a lovely set from Flapjack once in a swap....maybe those were more expensive and I just didn't notice.

Update Mamas~

Unfortunately, today things got kind of stressful here at the house(my husband decided to go on a house cleaning rant and was bad energy all over the place, my best friend arrived from out of town with 3 children and husband in tow unexpectedly, my daughter was having a very rough day and she is generally the sweetest, happiest baby on the block...)so things pretty much shut down altogether. My body knew that I didn't want this kind of birth and so it said, no way. My midwife came by to check me late this afternoon and I am 4cm dialted and my cervix is soft and very forward, so favorable for birth, but no contractions anymore. She swept my membranes to see if that would help for tomorrow or Sunday, but I know now it won't happen today.

Honestly, as disappointed I am about the 08/08/08 birthday going by the wayside, I am much happier to start with a fresh day because this is not the kind of energy and birth my baby deserves. I am just relaxing now, letting this day go away, putting the bad energy away, letting go of my disappoinment and focusing on the work ahead when he is ready to meet the world. I also really and truly believe that things happen for a reason, so all of these things must have needed to happen and my baby needed to not be born today.

I am ok with that now and will let everyone know as soon as things "pick up again", so thank you to all of you for the thoughts, blessings and energy. I really believe it helped me get through the disappointment that was today and let me focus on what is important-being ready for a healthy, happy birth, which I hope I will have news of very soon!

Right now im a student doula but am hoping to be a student midwife in a year or 2. I'd love to go for my CPM now but I want to wait until DS is a little older

Man, I canNOT keep track of the monthly threads. I always lose them!

We're busy crafting--my mom's been selling our wares at her bed and breakfast which has been keeping us VERY busy!

And here's a question: I'd love to make some Christmas ornaments, but have no ideas what/how. I do tie dye and have access to beading supplies. I can't sew at all. I'd LOVE some ideas.
