Can I make a tank top with two hanks of peace fleece?

I'm trying to use up my leftover yarn but I'm running into all sorts of problems. I find a pattern with yarn I have but needles I don't....or vice versa. I found a great tank top pattern in one skein wonders but it was for a lace weight yarn and I couldn't get the gauge with mine.

So maybe this is a reach but I've really got an itch to do a tank top with it being summer and all, and I'm kind of over doing kid/baby/gift stuff right now. So does anybody know of a pattern I could use with only two hanks of peace fleece worsted weight wool?

If not, any ideas for something I could use this leftover yarn for? I've got one hank of one color and two of another. Nothing too advanced either. This would be my first clothing item.

Do you have a Ravelry account? Because man oh man could their pattern browser solve this problem.

I don't know how many yards are in a hank of Peace Fleece, but two average weight skeins of worsted sound like plenty to me. I don't have a pattern though.

It is 200 yds per hank.

Yeah, I signed up for ravelry but the invite went into my spam vault and when I try to get them to send me another one I keep getting a message that says "we've already sent an invite to that email".

I've got a pattern for you! Let me see if I can find it - it's free and I'll post the link when I do.

ETA: haven't found it yet. It's a tank that has shaping, if I recall, and two cables down the front. I think it called for 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. I have a copy printed out at home where I can look up the URL. I think 2 skeins of PF will be plenty.

Thanks! I would definitely appreciate it. Wait, I haven't done cables before. Does that require a cable needle?

Ok, I found it . . . on ravelry. It's the Prosperous Plum Tank. I mis-remembered. It has a cable up the center and around the neckline and the cables run down the back off of each shoulder. It's a free download when you get on in a day or two. It's written for dk weight, so, you'd either have to knit a different size or do the match to change it . . . unless you've got two skeins of dk weight PF.

I can't seem to find the pattern online anymore. Perhaps you might find it in a cached link, but, from my quick look, it appears to only be available as a free ravelry download. I can email it since it's free, right? I can download it and send a pdf. I would think.

ETA: one more time - materials called for do not include a cable needle (but it's really not that hard), so, I'm guessing she got some method for creating them that doesn't involve a cable needle. I'm trying to finish up at work since I'm out tomorrow so, I didn't look that closely at the pattern.

Before you start the tank, you might want to consider: tank top -- hot weather...wool -- cold weather. KWIM? Have you considered making a shawl/wrap? Something to throw over your shoulders when it's cool in the house is always nice.

Or maybe some worsted weight socks.

*note that I'm not telling you not to make the tank, but I would have felt guilty if I saw you come back in a couple months to say you couldn't wear your tank (that pattern is pretty, I downloaded it a while back, myself).

Anywho, if you try the socks, silvers sock tutorial is great.

Pixiewytch, if you PM me your email address and a message for me to pass on to Casey, I'd love to try and get you onto ravelry...

I agree, I'm not sure wool/mohair yarn would be the best for a tank top, it is the mohair content "bothers" me. I love PF and it is a great yarn, and I think a wrap would be awesome.

good luck

yes, peace fleece + tank top = disaster. You could do a cute vest to wear over a long sleeved tee for winter, though, I think that would be awesome!

How about an anthropologie inspired caplet? Or a shrug? Much more suitable for pf..... Or a cabled handbag? but not a tank- please that just sounds painful!

: I love PF, but the thought of a PF tank top is making me itch.

Thanks for all the tips ladies. I think I'm just gonna break down and buy some yarn. There just doesn't seem to be anything I want to make with this peace fleece right now and if I really want to make a tank top I think I should just go on out and buy the yarn to do it, right?

Flapjack, I will PM you about this when I get a chance. I would really like to get my invite sent to me since I got it back in February, lol. DH has all sorts of security controls and spam vault stuff on this computer so half the time it is just a pain in the butt.

pixiewytch -- could you have your dh set your spam box so that it doesn't automatically delete? I just check mine daily & pull anything out that doesn't belong...

Have fun yarn shopping for your tank -- think cotton!
