Okay the midwife today suggested the usual induction methods..
nipple stimulation (LIKE SERIOUSLY HOW DO YOU DO THAT FOR THAT LONG?)
Sex....(YAWN)
Castor Oil...

I am afraid of the castor oil...
what should I expect if I bite the bullet?

I think for nipple stim. it would be best to do it while you are aroused that way it doesn't just feel like you're playing with your boobs for no reason! Also you could try a breast pump, which might mimic a nursing baby somewhat. I think that would be most effective.

I've never taken castor oil but apparently it tastes really gross and makes you poop a lot. If you decide to do it, make sure you stay hydrated!

A breastpump. I can't imagine doing it manually for as long as it takes!

Yeah, this would not work for me... I am SO disinterested in sex it's not even funny

From what I hear (never tried it), lots of cramps and diarrhea (more than normal), sometimes nausea/vomiting. "They" say that sometimes the babes will pass meconium in utero due to the laxative effect as well. Oh, that and it tastes/feels disgusting I know people who have done it in OJ or in root beer to try to help a bit with the taste and feel.

Good luck!

I'll blog it for you in real time to let you know how it goes
I just got to make sure hubby's beer meeting after work isn't going too late and the nanny isn't going out!

Off to the drug store...
If I don't chicken out!

What a picture...bored bloated swollen 9 month pregnant woman crapping her pants with castor oil induced diarreah while playing i mean stimulating her nipples...

the things we do to ourselves in the name of science...

I'm cracking up b/c I thought the same thing about the nipples I can't stand when they brush against my bra and I'm supposed to go to town on them - no thanks!!!

The castor oil will usually tear your tummy up, causing diarrhea which causes the uterus to contract. I've never done it, but have heard it's harsh. You'll also want to mix it with something, maybe OJ. GL!!!

I read 3 hours of nipple stimulation in one day will bring on labour...
WTF?
I can't do anything other than sleep for 3 hours ..and even that NOT LATELY.

A friend did castor oil and described it as the worst way to go into labor ever invented (diarrhea and the accompanying cramps throughout all of labor...plus the usual labor contractions, etc.).

For nipple stim, the pp's suggestion of a breast pump (electric) is a good idea (though yes, not so fun).

What about acupuncture?

Would you try epo (evening primrose oil) as a vaginal supository? This is suppose to ripen the cervix.

Sperm has the the most proglastins and therefore would be the most effective method of cervical ripening... just sayin' maybe you could attempt a quicky?

You aren't even due until the 16th. Some kind of emergency?

Right the prodomal ickiness.

I'd still stick with things that'll help encourage productive contractions instead of things that actually create contractions. So walking, nipple stim (seriously, just put in a movie and try to forget you're doing it), changing position.

Yeah done sex, done EPO, done RRLTea..
I am 4+cm dilated, 80% effaced and atleast zero station...
I didn't get a vag today but the midwife said she couldn't even feel the head it was so far dug into my pelvis..
I could have told her that one!!!!

Misse
I am trying to plan it out..
midwife says expect the runs 6-8hrs after the first dose...
to do 2oz then hour later 1oz, then hour later 1oz...
I am trying to figure that one out...
Her pager goes on at 7am

Here's my plan so far..
Spend night getting hydrated.
Relax, maybe dtd.
Take my vitamins, EPO, RRLT
Get a small nap in...

Wake up 2am (I am up all the time anyhow)
Have bath, get dressed...
DOWN THE HATCH
Put adult wipes beside toilet...
Crap my pants in peace in the coolness of the nighttime...
pray for real progressing labour pains...

My sis had the runs way earlier than 6 hours after her first dose!!! Be prepared for the runs any time after you take the castor oil.

Good luck, I hope the castor oil works!

Hi there not from your DDC but wanted to say something about using Castor oil. I tried it 3 times in my 2nd pregnancy and . I have tried it with both pop and OJ. For me OJ because its acidic was horrid when the poops came. Made the diarrhea worse as far as feeling like the exit had been burned lol. I highly recommend it with some kind of soda. I used Coke but I am guessing anything would work. Maybe also get some thing to sooth the area after each BM so as not to get raw. If you Google it I remember there being a recipe for root beer floats that from what I have read makes it really hard to taste it but I didn't try that. Hope all goes well and you are holding babe soon!

I got my tucks and some wet toilet paper all ready and set up for tomorrow. I won't take the castor oil very early cause I have a doctors appointment at 8:30 and I don't want to give my OB any surprises . So when I'm back from the ob I will have DS and DH go do something together and then I'll try the castor oil. I was thinking of doing 1tbsp. with grape juice and then another tbsp. half an hour later and see what happens...

On Sunday I have to do a "bowel cleanse" regime involving a clear-liquid-only diet and two rounds of laxatives... if there are enough of us, maybe we can get a chat room going.

I took castor oil with my last at 17 days over. It was just fine. It tasted like oil. I did it with rootbeer and made sort of a popper. My bowels started to empty about six hours later, which sent me into labor. My butt(hole) burned so bad, but I had a baby, which was the goal!

Good luck. I might be doing it tomorrow too.

For breast stim use the breast pump, although I didn't work for me.

I was set up to do castor oil, but baby came on her own without out, thank goodness.

What I think helped, is my midwife had me drink carroty juice. Apparently it helps your adrenal glands, and if your adrenal glands are out of wack then your body doesn't want to go into labor on its own.

I had a chiro adjustment to bring on labor in the morning and then drank carrot juice mixed with orange juice and went into active labor that night.

Could just be a coincidence but I was willing to try the carrot juice before spending hours on the toilet.
