Do a castor oil pack first. Castor Oil on belly, warm moist towel over that, then a dry towel on that.

cant hurt to do that first before you drink it!

I've heard of this - does it really work?

Ok ladies...don't do the castor oil. Give yourself a good enema. I am serious. The castor oil will cause horrible cramps and might cause you to poop as you are pushing (if you go into labor).

I do recommend making love, then later do an enema...this helped me pop the last one out!

oooh. i have never heard about the carrot juice. I will have to remember that in a few weeks! Sounds yummy anyway!

I'm going to the chiro tomorrow, and will definitely pick up some carrots to juice afterwards. I will not be joining the castor oil party, but will be reading from the wings...good luck!

Good luck. I might be doing it tomorrow too.
I can't believe you haven't had your babies yet!

No way would I ever take Castor Oil. I cannot stand diarrhea, it's one of my most hated things.

I took Castor Oil and never pooped - two doses and nothing. I did go into labor but then ds inhaled meconium at birth so I wouldn't repeat it. But that's me - you gotta do what you gotta do.
Good luck!!!!

Ugh you couldn't pay me to put castor oil in my body if I were 45 wks. No how. Cramps sound completely unappealing.

I pooped while pushing all three of my babies out and only one was caster oil.

I am not in your DDC but my youngest dd was born with the help of caster oil.

This page helped me a ton when I was deciding wither or not to use it.

It worked for me. I mixed it with ice cream AND root beer. It did not take 6 hours either. It was very quick. about 2 hours if I remember right.

Her birth story was published in a wonderful book. Here it is if you want to read it. (page 217)

I did feel a little bit sit to the stomach but it passed quickly.

Just make sure that you drink water EVERY single time you poo (it will be a lot)

So Shiloh - what's going on this morning?

Is castor oil considered to be more effective than stripping membranes? does it encourage something different? I was just wondering b/c you (Shiloh) had not mentioned trying that. My mw stripped my membranes on Weds and nothing has happened. my due date is Sunday and I will have them stripped again on Tuesday...tell me this, how do you think the castor oil treatment will affect a person who has bad hemorhoids...yes, me, for the last month...make them worse? hurt more?

OK, I'm definetely in. I just took two tbsp. castor oil. DIdn't really taste that bad. I will go lay down and wait and see what happens and maybe repeat in a few hours.

I second the enema idea. Cramps are no fun.

I wonder where Shiloh is today.

Maybe the castor oil has done the trick? Or maybe she's stuck on the toilet? Bleh, that would be no fun.

Ohboy. I'm afraid she's stuck on the toilet but I hope for her that the baby is coming. I'm still waiting...nothing yet but I've heard it takes a while until the co kicks in, right? I took it about 1.5 hours ago. I do have some ctx but they might be braxton hicks, not painful, not really in a pattern. I also had my membranes stripped earlier so it might be from that. Can you tell I'm desperately trying to avoid a C/s on Monday?

Shiloh is still here.
I got cold feet, did nipple stimulation that gave me every 4 min contrs...
scared the pantsoff me to add castor on top...after 1 hour checked my cervix...zero change...ramped up again this morning...then..

PINK SHOW!!
Dilation!

So I am waiting...dh is off work after 5...
and although the 8/8/8 seems uber cool...tomorrow is my grandma's 90th birthday I think that's a cooler gift!

My body is working! Pretty much on its own..
I also read a book that said optimal labour time is at night when its dark and quiet so I think we'll go for more tonight, when the nanny leaves....I am not sure I want her here....even though she's done HB with her sister's back home.

SO I will let it work today, keep walking, keep active and relax...
now that my body is moving on track I am feeling more that it is time and not so badly fence sitting...

For how long did you do the nipple stimulation before you had contractions kicking in?

I don't feel the effects of the castor oil yet...everything is quiet.

From what you were describing, you were pretty much on the edge of going into labor anyway.

I'm really glad you tried something less invasive first and that it's working.
