when did you find out it was multiples? - Page 3

Has anyone not found out they were having twins until the early 3rd trimester?

At my 28 week appointment yesterday I measured 4-6 cm bigger than I should be. At my 24 week appointment I was measuring right on. My midwife mentioned the possibility of twins and scheduled our next appointment for 30 weeks. This is my fourth pregnancy to make it this far. I've always measured within a cm or two or normal. I've never had an u/s but am considering getting one if I'm still measuring way ahead in 2 weeks. I really don't want to get my hopes up for twins but I also want to be prepared if I really am carrying two babies.

I'd love any advice or suggestions.

Also my middle son consistently mentions twins. I wonder if he knows something we don't.

I also wanted to comment on something I found very interesting.

Several of the ladies on this thread mentioned conceiving twins immediately after a miscarriage. I actually had a miscarriage just 2 weeks before conceiving this baby.

I found out realllly late.

When twin 2 was born on my bed

I had a up/uc for many reasons. I suspected during the pregnancy but dismissed it since noone in our family had twins. I didn't have a problem doing a twin uc but knew hubby would be very uncomfertable whuch I guess influenced my denial about a twin pregnancy.

It was a bit of a shock to say the least but a fantastic one

I also found out at the 20 week sono and also had been having twin dreams, so my DH and I just started laughing hysterically when she said there were two. I looked at him like "see? told ya!" I had asked my midwife at my 10 week appt if it was possible that I was carrying twins b/c of the dreams and morning sickness and she laughed at me.

20 weeks 1 day.

We pretty much knew at 15 weeks but my OB said there was no way because we didn't do fertility treatments. I knew that was not true but we were young(er) and didn't push for a u/s like we wanted.

So 20 weeks 1 day and there are two baby boys. You bet your bottom I walked into that OB office the following day with a grin plastered across my face. The nurse was laughing to herself but the OB didn't have much to say. Imagine that.

I found out it was multiples at 6.5 weeks when I had an u/s to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. At that u/s, we saw 2 heart beats and an empty sac. The assessment was that I had been pregnant with triplets and lost one. DH was stunned we were expecting twins, but I wasn't at all surprised.

I had a second ultrasound at 10 weeks to confirm things were still good because I was about to be without prenatal care for 6 weeks during an international move. At that ultrasound, we saw two babies very clearly. The OB and I were having a chat about how to care for myself until I got to my new doctor and she left the wand on my belly. At some point, she saw something she wasn't expecting and went looking - and found the other baby, who had a lovely little heartbeat that we almost missed completely.

19ish week ultrasound. I had asked my OB at the 12 week appt if it could be twins as I was SO sick... he said my weight gain was exactly the same as it had been with my DS so it couldn't be twins (do you think the fact that I was puking every day for 24 weeks had anything to do with it?) and, you know, every pregnancy is different. No kidding, buddy! At around 15 weeks, I have a note in my diary that my DP thinks it has to be either a girl or triplets... turns out he was mostly right!

My best friend has younger twin sisters who weren't "discovered" until the second one was born. Talk about twinshock!

I am currently pregnant with twins...wow can't get used to saying that yet! Anyway...this sounds really bizarre but a friend of the family "predicts" genders of babies...she has gotten every one correct that I have known about...she told DH and I that our second baby would be twins (they do not run in my family, but none the less it freaked me out!) When I got pregnant last October I knew it was just one, unfortunately i m/c, it was just one....this time the hpt came back + very soon...estimated date I was only 8-9 days "pregnant" so I thought my dates were messed up last AF cycle was light...but I kept telling DH "what are we going to do if we have twins?' he just chuckled and said we will take care of it...his way of saying oh dear don't be silly!!! Well yesterday at my u/s to see what my dates were...as soon as we started I said "well as long as it's not twins" then I see two sacs..and two yolks!! My OB says Umm. and gets out the outside wand and does both at the same time! I just blurted out...it's twins isn't it! Long story short I had two u/s yesterday to confirm that it is twins! One of my concerns now is Vanishing Twin Syndrome! but we will see...i have my first Prenatal Apt. Sept 8th plus another u/s! So there is no telling what will come!!!

Oh one other thing my dad had a dream that night before my u/s that I had twins!! I think my dad and family friend hit the nail on the head!!!

Thanks for letting me share my story!!!!

Thanks Shukr! I am getting more excited and I feel better today so that helps a lot!!! Wow you are going to have your hands full!!! I admire mommies who can do it! I am an only child! So going from 1 to 3 is a hard adjustment!! But I guess I'm going to be one of those mommies I admire....hmmm

My dh knew a couple days after we got pg and teased me for weeks. At 9 weeks, my uterus was WELL out of my pelvis and my ds was taking about his new 3 babies. Well, at 14 weeks I had some bleeding and lost some serious tissue. I thought I may have lost a twins.

So we went in for an ultrasound. . . It was twins!! I had lost a triplet.
