I hate to say it....but....thanks enfamil

I work in a maternity ward and enfamil actually did make something that i have to be greatful for. As a mom who has tubular breasts i used an SNS for almost a year - something that costs about $40. I clogged the tubes once and had to get a new one, and melted the plastic another time and get a 3rd.

Well today at work i saw an enfamil "sns." Instead of a nipple, they make the tubing the fits perfectly on the ready to pour bottles, and there is a hook that fits on the bottom of the bottle and can hang on the top of a bra. IMO - much easier than a typical SNS. AND CHEAP!

Even though this may encourage formula use in some, it still is making breastfeeding easier for others.

Just thought id share!

But they're making it easier by providing (selling) you the tubing that fits on the ready to pour jars that they're also selling you.

They're not trying to help you, they're trying to make money off of you by making a product you're more likely to buy. And there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

But unless I'm missing somethign, I just don't get the "thanks".

And FTR, they don't encourage formula use in some...they encourage it in all. They'd *love* it if you and everyone else just didn't bother breastfeeding and just formula fed your babies.

(Disclaimer: I'm not faulting the OP at all for using enfamil or it's products AT ALL)

As a mom who used a SNS for awhile, they are not cheap. If enfamil takes to step to make a lower cost SNS maybe the companies who truley care about breastfeeding will follow step. I can not figure out for the life of me why the silly product cost $40.00 or so. I made a crude version for about $5.00

I see it as Medela and Ameda ripping off mothers who are desperate to nurse......I say more power to enfamil.

CookieMonster- i know where you are coming from and i get it...

but i HAD to buy formula to supplement my baby anyway, and i honestly believe this will be saving women money. On the floor i work on this device is saving mothers from using a bottle and creating nipple confussion...and while i hate that it is still promoting the "product" it IS helping moms breastfeed too.

I wonder if this is advertised or widely available on their web site or if it's exclusive to hospitals/maternity wards. In the case with 3 of my children, I LEFT the hospital thinking breastfeeding was going fine/normal and it wasn't until a few weeks later when lack of weight gain and failure to thrive became an issue that I realized I needed the aid of an SNS. Would the enfamil product have been available to me at that time?

When they stop violating The International Code I will thank them for something. Until then they can buzz off, money is obviously the bottom line and this case is no different. Doing something good by accident while ultimately trying to make money (and while simultaneously doing a whole world of bad bad bad)...yeah I'm not falling all over myself to thank them for that...
