My 2yo watched BOBB!

I took the Business of Being Born over to watch with my mom yesterday. My 2 year old son was sitting next to me and he was intently watching during several of the births. My mom says "don't you think he's a little young for this?". My obnoxious self said "well, I wouldn't have a problem with him watching a cow give birth, why would it be a problem for him to see a woman give birth? He's seen nipples before.". (My dad was cringing across the room). She says "well this is a little different". WHY? Not to compare women to cows....but to me birth is birth, KWIM?

Ds really seemed to enjoy watching the births. Later we told dh about it. I said "hey Sawyer, did you tell daddy that you saw a baby being born today?". Sawyer says "baby came out of water". It just blew his little mind to see these babies coming out of the water! I can see bathtime becoming pretty fun and humorous in the near future.

My dd has watched BOBB too. She's seen lots of birth movies so she didn't bat an eye. She also saw her sister being born.

My son hasnt seen that but he does like to watch birthing videos on youtube! hehe

He loves waterbirths!...He goes 'here it come here it comes here it comes - oh the baby is swimmin'!

DS watched it too and my ILs were a little wierded out by it they can go, ya know

DS was really fascinated by it all, he's 5, and I was excited he WANTED to watch it.

Anytime my boys (4.5 and 2) hear sound coming out of the laptop, they come running to watch the youtube birth video. Ds1 calls them his "video games."

thanks for this thread. i will let my children watch it tmrw. however, glad the first time was with hubby only. cried and felt lost for a good one hour, and my kids don't need to see me like that

My 4 y/o asks for it by name. Both my girls have seen tons of birth videos. I do think Birth Day, Maternity Ward, etc. are inappropriate, because of the horrible interventions. Birth itself? No way! I have no problems with that. I have pictures of my kids both being "pregnant" and my older one playing midwife with my younger. She pulls the baby out through the bottom of the 2 year old's onesie. It's very cute.
