Thinking about a homebirth, but...

I'm not actually positive that I'd be more comfortable here than at the birth center. It's beautiful, I love my midwives, and my sister just had a baby there and had such a peaceful and beautiful experience. Any advice from anyone who's done it before would be SUPER!

The other day DP brought it up, and said that maybe it would be easier just to have it here, mostly because we wouldn't have to worry about going home because we'd already be here. So now I've been kicking the idea around. I am totally fine with either the home or the birth center. I'm totally cool with homebirthing and so it's not like it's a scary decision or anything like that. I just haven't had a homebirth before and have no idea what it would be like. This is the first place I've lived that I would even consider it, too.

So for the birth center, the pros are that the rooms are great, there's a birthing tub in every room, it's in a big house with big rooms and they are all really nice. It's so clean and pretty, and I feel very comfortable there. The cons are basically that I'd be there, and not at home, and we'd have to leave eventually. Plus my son probably would stay at home that first night with my mom... not sure if that would end up mattering though. Oh and it would cost more to have it at the BC, but that's not really that big of a deal since we already paid for everything.

Home would be awesome, except that our bedroom is on the second floor, and there are no bathrooms upstairs. So I don't know where I'd want to be! And I don't know that I want to be going up and down stairs while I'm in labor. The main floor of the house is hardwood, but the rest is white carpet. I remember my son's birth being a huge bloody mess! And I'm so paranoid that I'd bleed all over the carpet (we're renting). One big plus to having it at home is also that we live about 4 blocks from the hospital, just in case anything should go wrong or whatever. The BC is about 10 minutes away from here. Not a huge difference, and I'm not super worried about it, but it would be nice to be milliseconds from the hospital if I needed it. And while the tubs at the BC sound nice... I don't know that I'll want to get in! When I had my son I was just so positive that I wanted to use the birthing tub (I had him in a hospital, but there was a birth tub there) until I was actually in labor and then I wanted nothing to do with it. So who knows if I'll even want the water. I guess I just don't know what it would be like to have it here, and I wonder where I would even have it... I guess I could stay upstairs in my room as long as I didn't feel like going downstairs to the tub?

Either way, I have awesome midwives. I still haven't talked to them about it, I plan to at my next appointment though. But... any BTDT advice would be super

This is the BC I'd be at...

For *me* the only reason I'd consider a birth center is if my home was NOT an option for whatever reason.

For *me* I can't imagine getting in a car in labor. MUCH LESS packing up a newborn and an exhausted me and getting in a car AFTER birth... ugh.

Mess is containable and cleanable.... I've had 2 homebirths now, one in water, one out and there was no mess either time. Straightening up and putting things back where they went, but no real mess.
