i have a big bag i love but it drives me nuts that i have to pack it just so or it flops over on itself. i like it to keep its shape so i can just see what's in there! how do you do featherlight homemade 'stays' in the bottom corners or sides to keep it standing up?

hmm.

i do it with interfacing....get some stiff stuff they sell at joanns and sew it in while i am making the bag.

You could also use cotton batting, or just make the bag from the prequilted fabric you can find at Jo-Ann's, Hancocks, etc.

thanks for the ideas! here's the thing -- i LOVE this bag -- it is orange pebbled pleather, so i don't have any way to sew it. any thoughts on how to insert something that would stay in place? i could pin something or hand spot stitch somehting to the lining... is there some kind of plastic-y thing i could use? i am not near a good fabric store or jo-ann's unfortunately,, so i am picking your brains!

Just a thought...may not work...but how about some thin plastic boning (the type in corsets) placed into the corners from top to bottom? I don't have a clue how you could attach it though...maybe some sort of fabric glue, that's good for use with pleather....??

All of the patterns I've seen call for plastic canvas (the needlepoint stuff) cut to the size of the bottom of the bag and then sewn in between the lining and the outer. It's machine washable and will make the bottom of the bag stiff.
