At home, the couple is adjusting to their new nightly schedule: Nancy breastfeeding (by induced lactation, a process using hormones and physical stimulation with a breast pump) and Thomas keeping company while watching TV.
I know that this is kind of "celebrity gossip" but I think it is awesome that Nancy relactated. I am sure this is the first time many people (and even mom's wanting to adopt, etc.) have heard of this and thought, "Wow! I didn't even know that was possible!! Maybe I can do/try/learn more about that!"

I am so happy for this couple!! And their DD is ADORABLE!!

Wow, that is AWESOME!

I admit, one of the things that crossed my mind when I first heard of their story was how the baby couldn't be breastfed since her "mother" didn't have breasts. :

Relactation is so unheard of in the mainstream, I never would have thought that the mom would have heard of and actually do it! :

I just read that too!!!

I could have swarn the "mother" who looks like a man was really a woman with a breast reduction. I wonder if he/she/that person had them removed completely. humm..

I would assume that he has had top surgery - which means a double mastectomy with reconstruction. That's generally what FtM transexuals do, but of course I could be wrong in this case.

Why would it not be okay? Baby needs milk, mother breastfeeds. All good.

Its an odd situation but the baby has a momma & daddy. The nonbirth momma is breast feeding and that would be no different than any momma who adopted a baby to give breastfeeding a try I hope that little girl gets all the momma milk and love she can handle.

I think it's great. Every baby deserves breastmilk.

No, not this. I meant is it ok to post in Lactivism. I know that we aren't really supposed to post about "celebrities" who breastfeed, but I thought this could be an exception.

I think she was asking if it's okay to post here, since most celebrety-related threads are deemed "gossip" and removed.

I wouldn't consider this gossip, though. Many, many women are reading this story and learning about inducing lactation for the first time. I would certainly consider sharing this story lactivism.

Yes, the bio mother/ social father has has his breasts basically removed via plastic surgury, but kept his female reproductive organs (I'm saying "his" because this individual is currently living as a man.) I saw a photograph of him when he was pg, and it looked like he had no ductal tissue left.

The mother is the wife of the man who gave birth. She has induced lactation. She was never pg (not from lack of trying, according to an article I read on the topic before their baby was born) but has normal, scar-free breasts. Relactation is when a woman, who has previously lactated (even if it only refers to post-birth leaking and she never actually breastfed the baby) decides to nurse her baby and get him or her off of formula or donated milk. Induced lactation is when a woman, who has never been pg, attempts to induce a milk supply. It's mostly adoptive moms who fall into this category.

I'm really glad she decided to induce lactation. It's one of the things I wondered about when I first read their story, before the baby was born.

She has two 20-something daughters. They were on Oprah with them a couple months ago.

I am thrilled the baby is getting BM that was something that made me very sad thinking the baby wouldnt be able to nurse since bio mom had a total mastectomy.

Really? Approximately 9256 people told me that I would be able to breast feed when we were waiting to adopt my daughter. No pressure.

At any rate. This is cool.
