Levi Aaron was born on Sunday, 8/3, at 36 weeks after premature rupture of membranes. He was 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 19 inches long.
Birth quickly went from 12 hours of normal labor to extremely emergent c-section due to umbilical cord prolapse. The doctor rode on the bed with me to the OR with her hand inside me trying to hold his head up off of the cord. They had to start cutting before I was knocked out (ow!) because there just wasn't time. Four minutes from decision to section to when he was born (I was knocked out by that time). I was told that he came out blue but his heart rate quickly recovered and he was resuscitated easily. DH told me that the doctor and one of the nurses were crying afterwards b/c it was so traumatic. The doctor and the anesthesia people told me it was the closest call they'd ever had (I could tell that by the way people were running and screaming and not even trying to remain calm as we were getting to the OR), and the fastest section they'd ever done. They said that we came within a minute of losing him. He had to stay in the NICU on some oxygen due to a bit of fluid in his lungs, but that was cleared up and he was off of oxygen within a day. He also has jaundice, but we are clearing that with a bili blanket and frequent feedings. We came home on Wednesday. He is nursing well, and I am pumping, too.
It was terrifying, but all is well now and he is worth whatever it took to get him here. I am so thankful for the skill of the OB, nurses, and anesthetists who got him here safe and sound.
