Please help with choosing paint colors

We're trying to get away from our sterile neutral brown interior and get some color in our house. We just painted our half bath a beautiful shade of red (Wild Currant from Sherwin Williams). We were going for a reddish-burgundy, but it's definitely more red. We really like it though.

We're going to do a room a paycheck until the house is done. We have an open area between the kitchen and family room. Our couch/loveseat is a really dark burgundy. Our family room curtains are dark brown (hershey chocolate color). We were thinking a peanut butter color but I don't know that I want brown in the kitchen. We have brown cabinets. I'm not sure that we can do a color though (I really like the red's, but maybe that would be too much?). We have off white trim and doors. We have brown carpet, but will be getting hardwood floors in a couple years.

We also have a playroom that has chair rail and the entry way and living room. I think they should all coordinate but not be the same (you can see the family room and play room fromt the entryway).

Dh doesn't care for blues, yellows or greens. Which pretty much limits us.

Oh also, is eggshell finish pretty durable? We did semi-gloss in the bathroom. Is it best to do semi-gloss in the kitchen too (I seem to recall reading that humid rooms should be semi?) and eggshell everywhere else? I just want to be able to wash the walls!

I think we narrowed it down to various shades of brown in the family room and entry way. We're going to do the peanut butter color in the family room and a shade darker on the card for the entry way and upstairs to the hall. I'm torn about the kitchen though. I found a nice green but dh said absolutely no green. I've seen some pretty orange colors (not like a pumpkin!) but don't know if those could be done with the burgundy couch in the next room. Does anyone know about that? I'd like something kind of cheerful in here since we spend so much time in the kitchen.

I've always loved the idea of playing off the colours of natural slate- reds, blue/grey, blue/green, etc. THat would tie in your reds, browns, and give you options to play with.
