I was going to get her an yahoo email account but they want a credit card #.
I understand why they want it but really hate to give out such an important #.

What did you get your Kid? I would love some thoughts on this.

TIA!

A credit card number? We set up an account for my daughter a year or two ago on yahoo. They didn't need an cc number. You can try google's gmail instead. I also think my daughter's account on yahoo is set up as a minor. when she is signed in on yahoo, certain websites are blocked from coming up in search listings.

When I finally gave in and got the kids email accts, we used our local phone service's email. It was free, and we get up to 6 accounts because we already have internet through them.

Are you on the real yahoo site? The real one does not require any CC #. IT's free. I think you may be on a scam site. I just created an e-mail account with yahoo and it took me just a few seconds.

That's what we did too. Plus it has the added security of the same password for her email that we have. We don't read her email, but we can keep an eye on if we think there's something going on. Right now, though, she's not allowed on the internet without Dh or I in the room anyway.

We set up DSD's with our internet service. Her mother also set up one for her on gmail. Both have been great with setting up security measures for it.

What is gmail?

What is g mail? Is it the same as email? And could someone please tell me what server they use that lets them get copies of emails sent to their kids and lets you share a password? My kids aren't allowed on the web without supervision right now but will be taking online classes through a distance school starting Sept. They will need to email assignments and questions to their teacher. DD is getting her own lap top in a few days. I respect my kids privacy and don't intend to read their personal emails from friends but I do want to know who they are communicating with as well as keep tabs on communications with their teachers.

Yep it's the real Yahoo site. I have had a yahoo email since 03. Her birthday is September 26th, she will then turn 8. Yahoo said for any one under 13 it would need a parents cc.

We shopped around at other sites and she really wanted a yahoo like me.
What I did was set it up in my name and I know the pass word.

I told her she is not aloud to change the pass word. I set it up and if she did change it (or forget it) it would be emailed to me and I could decide what to do then if she changed it. I really trust my daughter, It's every one else in the world I don't. I told her she would get some junk mail and not to open it, that I will have a look with her. We had the birds and bees talk along time ago and I told her some of the junk mail will have the word sex in the title. If she does not no the sender she'll ask me about it before opening it.

I hope this works out, There was no way I was going to give a cc #.

I set up both my niece and nephew with gmail. It's email provided by Google. It has so much storage you NEVER have to delete an email. I have over 3,000 emails! It has alot of features too. It will forward all mail to another email if you want it too. So you could see what emails your child gets.I LOVE it. :
