HELP - need WAHM job/idea making $500/mth to survive economy

I need the extra income due to cuts at DH's work. We need an extra $400 a month just to keep the house going. The economy is horrible here and there are no jobs and foreclosure in the area is insane. The jobs available here pay so little that it is not worth me during (gas, daycare, etc). Please we are on an extremely tight budget with no luxuries and therefore, I can not pay for start up of a WAHM business and I can not pay to become a medical coder/transcriptionist.

I do some paid surveys but the pay is not adding up or I am not qualified. Here is my problem with finding a WAHM job:

~ Not a recruiter - so please no recruiting jobs (I don't want to talk people into something, KWIM and it bothers me when I am out w/ kids and people hoard me w/ flyers)
~ Not a salesman - I don't want to do any sales (no time w/kids and I hate bothering people) no avon, candle parties (did I mention the economy is horrible so no buyers around here just an abundance of sellers)
~ Not a mystery shopper - tried it but it's only offers maybe 3 shops in a 50 mile radius of me (the gas price makes it useless)

I CAN DO:
~ Auditing - I use to work as an auditor for Automotive company before becoming a SAHM
~ Assistant -I was a personal assistant that worked from home for an executive of an automotive company but due to cut in 2005 I was let go.
~ I also am certified to teach math but again no jobs here
~ Gardening - I grow veggies for others and ourselves
~ Computer Savvy - data entry, powerpoint, excell, accounting software, etc.
~ I am an extremely fast learner w/ a BS in CS and 1yr of grad school

So what can I do online/from home to help DH with keeping our home together? Please HELP, because with the tight budget we will be in the hole if I can not make atleast $400 each month doing something.

You could try Chacha.com It's not what I would call a big moneymaker, but it's something. You could make that much money with it, but you would have to spend a fair bit of time doing it. If you want more info about how to get accepted, you can PM me.

I was thinking about this some more. There are websites online for tutoring, maybe you could tutor in math online. I'm sure if you do a search here, you can find links. I don't have any personal experience.

Or you could start a biz doing virtual personal assisting. You could probably find more about that with a search here, too.

HTH!

I have done personal assisting when I was out of work. Mostly writing, light bookkeeping, database management, etc. Most of my clients were small business owners/WAH types. I placed ads on Craigslist with a summary of my qualifications and availability. It helps to be mobile when I had to meet with them in person, but the work was done at home. I didnt have problems going to their place on occasion though.

I only looked for a WOH job because I need the health insurance.

Do you have craigslist in your area? You could sell anything around that house that you don't absolutely need. I've also used craigslist to find babysitting jobs. One childcare kid should cover your budget deficit.

Well you make $65 a week donating plasma, takes about 2 hours each time and you have to do it twice a week.

I used to tutor in math when I was in college and I made $50 an hour. So if you did it twice a week for an hour, you could pull in $400 easily.

You could try to be a virtual assistant. If you are computer savvy and have been an assistant before.
Just google "how to become a virtual assistant" and "virtual assistant forums".

VA's do all the stuff you listed: data entry, powerpoint, excell, accounting software, etc.

Seriously? There are no math teaching jobs? My degree is in math and just today my mother (who's a teacher) called me and said that there's an opening for middle school math and they can't find anyone to fill it. ANYONE. They're going to hire a sub. Move to NJ, lol.

Do you code? You may be able to pick up freelance work coding bits and pieces here and there for websites and whatnot. PHP is easy as languages go.
Or, if you can afford to take the time to build it up, you may be able to eak out $400 a month building adsense sites.

Tutoring online's OK. It's competitive, though. I signed up through a couple of services and hardly ever get students. Maybe you'd have better luck.

I know a lot of people who are successful at becoming virtual assitants. Even I am currently contracted with two.

I know of at least one VA that had so much work, she got burned out and had to fire some clients, along with cutting back on the kind of work she was willing to do.

Do your research on what a virtual assitant is and what services you can provide. Then hang your shingle.
