Rant about appointment

Well since we live on an island with no midwives we have to have one travel over before the birth and continue seeing the dr. here. I asked for a referal for insurance and he said he couldnt Then he goes on to say that I can still be a patient there but he would prefer "being a dr. and all" to do it the RIGHT way ina hospital. Umm yea okay. He went on to say to my hubby that he would never let his wife do it unless the midwife was a cnm cause it was a poor choice. I told him that we are doing it and I trust her. At the end of my appoinment he mentioned the gd test at my next appointment and I told him I wouldnt be doing it. Then he goes on to lecture me about it and says that Im not thinking straight right now so they will ask me again next time. UMM OKAY! I am NOT happy but I do not know what to do. I see a different dr. next time, I made sure of that but now my hopes are really gone for having a dr. who is just supportive!

I am curious about your MW more than anything. She isn't going to do your prenatal care, but she is going ot do the birth? That seems a bit odd. I am gathering you are over 20 weeks, right? I could see going to an OB for the first half, but i would probably want to be getting to know the MW who will be at my delivery if I were you.

As for your Doc, well, that is what i would have expected. Sorry he was a jerk, but I would expect no different with the other doc next time. I just hate to see you getting harrassed when you don't need to be.

That is incredibly frustrating and I know your options must be so limited in Kodiak. It's great that you have a mw willing to travel to you, though! Stick to what you know is best and don't let the dr push you around or make you feel badly!

Yick, is that your only possible doctor? Is he an OB? I would be happier with a regular old family doctor if this was how an OB was going to be. Do you have your midwife picked out yet? I'm in Anchorage and my midwife is really cool, and I know she sometimes does bush deliveries. PM me if you want to know about her.

I didn't do the gd test either. My midwife was cool with it. She did do a blood test of some sort that took a sample blood sugar level or something, can't remember exactly. If you feel good about not doing it, stick to your guns. Sounds like this guy wants to fearmonger.

My midwife lives in a completely different place so we just talk on the phone for our "appointments" so I have to continue going to an OB. There are 4 other ones at the same place Im going to. The drs. office I went to for my daughter has some new person and I havent heard anything about who it is. There is one other place that a few people have told me about and I was thinking about calling and just straight up asking if it would be a place that would support my having a homebirth. Besides that, there is no one else on the island. It really sucks!
