20 week (or so) U/S check in! - Page 2

So many girls so far!
Just got back from mine....

it's a BOY!!!! : My MIL, my Mom, and I, all thought I was having a boy. Don't know why but we did and we were right!

We had to drive up to Tacoma (we live in Olympia) to have a type 2 done and talk to a genetic counselor because my quad screen results indicated trisonomy 18. The counselor said my blood tests made my chances about 2.6 % (itsy bitsy teeny chance!) and that in her opinion this ultrasound halved those. So I have a 1.3% chance that the baby will have trisonomy 18. Everything they could see showed the baby looked really healthy. I do have to go back next month for another look because the baby was not letting the technician get a good look at his heart and they want to check on it.

I'd put off buying stuff until we knew a) that the baby was healthy and b) who we were having. Now that we know we're having Alexander and that he seems to be all healthy I'm going shopping!

Congratulations KatW! We had the same trisomy 18 scare after my quad screen. The relief I felt seeing a healthy baby on ultrasound was beyond words!

:

I'm 18 weeks and 3 days but she is measuring 19 weeks and was moving all over the place!! The US tech kept saying how long her legs are
post #25 of 45
We are 90% certain we are having a girl too

But... my ultrasound was not fun. The tech was an elderly Eastern European woman with a heavy accent. She didn't let me watch for the 45 min. she measured everything because she needed to look 'straight at the screen.' I got in trouble when I tried to turn my head. By the end I was crying I was so aggravated. Then I finally got to see for 5ish minutes and she wouldn't give us a definite on the sex even though the baby's legs were wide open from what I could tell. Grrrr. She barely spoke too. She didn't tell me anything about the baby's size, measurements, etc. I'm soooo upset. I was planning on only one ultrasound but now I want another one because this one was so awful. I'm going to see what my midwife says tomorrow. The only reason I went to this office is because we pay 20% and the quote I got was only 20% of $246, not 20% of $1300 like the hospital said.

With DS the tech let us watch and explained what she was measuring the whole time. It was much more pleasant.

That is awful Taryn! What an awful tech! Ick! I'm sorry you had that experience.

: Our ultrasound went awesome! It was sooo cute! It had it's little hand up covering it's face, and kept crossing and un-crossing it's legs. It was sooo neat!

Then it opened it's legs pretty well and we got a great shot...

IT'S A GIRL!!!!

And she will be named Kalie Elizabeth. I am soooo excited!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your awful US experience, Taryn! Some people just shouldn't be healthcare providers! :

Congratulations on the girls JSMa and Jojo!

Sorry you were disappointed. I only ever got to see about 3 min. each time. It's just how it's done around here. The dad isn't even welcome in the room until the last few minutes.

Anyway... got the results from my u/s at the mw appointment yesterday. Everything is normal. I was joking with DH that at least one of us is normal. :
I've had two "big u/s". One at 17 weeks and one at 20. At 17 weeks the placenta was partially covering my cervix, but that seems to have resolved itself by 20 weeks, as expected.

BUT, at the 20 week they discovered that one of my guy's kidneys is in the wrong place. One is normal and the other is low (she said "in the pelvis"). They want me to have yet another u/s to monitor this 'abnormality'. Most likely they won't know if there is a real problem until after birth. They will want to do a u/s on the baby once he is born to check for genital abnormalities apparently.

If my DS weren't struggling with a really bad virus at the moment (throwing up for five days now and headed towards real dehydration, I fear) and if DH weren't in Europe for a conference for 10 days...well...then I might have time to fret about the kidney....

Taryn237- that's awful!!!! I'm so sorry you didn't have an enjoyable U/S

ainh- It sounds like you have your plate full right now. Hopefully the kidney issue resolves itself -which is certainly could- and the virus will run it's course. Keep DS hydrated as much has possible with some good homemade broth and lots of sodium ascorbate

I had my U/S this morning. All looks well so far - everything was where it should be. And we found out we are having another boy! So that is number three for us. I'm struggling with a little disappointment. I wanted this to be my last pregnancy, but I am mourning the idea of never having a daughter. I love my boys, and will obviously love this one, but I'm still struggling a little.

Sorry for the struggle. It's totally OK to feel a little disappointed. Hopefully knowing a head of time will give you time to mourn for what you had hoped to be so you can fully embrace you new little guy.

I've come to the realization that I'm really, really hoping for another girl. I tell people that I only hope it's a girl so she can use hand-me-down clothing from DD but, when I'm really being honest with myself, my heart is really hoping for a girl for far beyond logistical reasons. If I have a boy, I know I will love him just as much as I love DD and he will be the perfect addition to our family but I'll still stuggle a little too. Just wanted you to know that you're not alone.

I had my unofficial 20 week u/s today. Unofficial bc I just changed providers and today, at my first appt, they wanted to do "just a quick check" since my records hadn't been transferred over yet. It turned into a fairly thorough u/s and they took measurements and pics of everything-arms, legs, head, torso, cord, cerebellum, nuchal fold, etc. Everything looked totally normal but they still want me to go back in a few weeks for an official level II and fetal echo at the specialist's office. And they want to change my EDD--not sure how I feel abt that. It is true that I thought I was further along when I went into to my 1st appt at my old provider's office, so, maybe? And evidently every measurement was off by the same amount so they all matched and measured 20 weeks not 18w4d.

But anyway, according to the tech, we're having a boy. I'm excited and yet not at the same time--this is likely our last pregnancy and I did really want a girl but another boy would be so much fun too. It's like I'm excited we're having a boy but sad at the same time.

Our 18 week said boy, this 21 week said girl. So I guess... surprise?

Just got back from my ultrasound - everything looks great, and most exciting my sch is shrinking!!!! So it could disappear yet, and I could have the normal, full term, pregnancy I have been hoping for!!!

:

DH, DD and I were hoping for a girl (and I have been convinced enough to call her a she and start calling her by name for a while....) and DS wanted a boy. We got our girl, and DS actually cried during the ultrasound, poor guy!

I already posted this elsewhere but....went for my U/S yesterday and the tech said it was a boy right away! Can´t believe it!

He said the baby looks great!
We had ours this afternoon. When we first went in there we told the tech we didn't want to know what we were having and the first thing it picked up was a view of between the wide open legs, and he kept it there for a while lol. So we're now pretty sure it's a girl, since I'm pretty sure we would have seen a penis if it was there, but there was nothing there. But everything looked great, and it added a few days to my due date so I can see that as being a good thing if I go "over". And we got a picture of the foot and it's adorable! I'm still on a baby high! :

Had the ultrasound this morning, everything looks good so far and it looks like we are having another boy!

Had a scan today, 19w4d and I am having a boy!
Had our scan this morning.. I thought from the beginning - girl, but my husband had me convinced over the past couple of weeks that it was a boy (wishful thinking on his part). So I was surprised when they said girl this morning! Had a great technician, met with the doctor right there and so far everything looks great!
