The Kissing Hand, especially if the issue is separation anxiety.

My youngest and I did our kissing hands today (tomorrow I'll draw a little heart on her palm)-she starts kindergarten tomorrow. It's the favorite of both my dds.

Right now, our library has lots of going back to school, starting kindergarten, and "general" school themed books separated out and showcased. Your library is probably doing something similar since it seems most follow a nationwide pattern. But, if not, the librarians are usually a great resource.
All the attention on the back to school stuff is, of course, slightly annoying to us as home schoolers but hopefully will be a good resource for you.

Hugs to you. I am a separated/divorced single mom, too.

First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg was a very funny story that my DD and I read when she started kindergarten last year.

We love the Kissing Hand.
