i have started what i can my Epic Project AKA 21X21 project

its a blanket for my bed,
its made from squares 21 stitches by 21 rows (well sort of)
i worked on square as normal then when i got to the end i chainded 22 stitches and worked verticaly till i (well will do) get to the end of the first square then i will work horizontal again and so on and so forth till the section is 21 squares long, then i will work 21 rows of 21 squares, so all in all the blanket should be 442 squares big. its gonna be HUGE.
its going to take AGES. i only work on this in bed at night an i can get between 15-30 rows done if DD lets me.

its Epic!!

anyone else ever have a projcet that was huge or took a long time?

My major knitting epic was DS's baby blanket, begun the day I got a BFP, finished in time for Halloween when he was 7 months old. It was based on the Hoover Baby Blanket in Knitty, with the Superman shield on one side, bright red on the other.

He is next allowed to touch it when he goes off to college.

Oh Meepy - the Hoover blanket is why I started knitting. I have no idea why, but that is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

My epic project is also a baby blanket...I'm winging it...I started out in the round with four stitches, knit one round even, increase eight stitches every other round. It's turning out square, due to the placement of the increases (which is what I planned) and I'm going to finish off with a deep, deep lace border. Did I mention it's knit with fingering weight on size 3s? And my finished blankie should be 400 or so stitches on each side. Yeah, I'm only up to 208. And she's due in 40ish more days. I should probably get to work on it....

Mine's Lizard Ridge. I've been doing a square every time I get in a funk emotionally...

Yep.

I knit a blanket for my Gram last fall (as her Christmas gift last year), that was 35 total squares that were 12" x 12" each.

It took me about 2 months to finish it, knitting everyday.

Good luck with your mamoth project.

I have never tried something that big but you ladies are making me want to!

I'm working on (amongst other projects, about 5-6 of them!) a log cabin blanket, using all my odd balls and scraps of yarn. It's around 18inX18in now, long way to go, but I am LOVING log cabin-ing! I'm not sure how big it will be--maybe big enough for 2 people to snuggle under on the couch, or maybe just a largish lap-blanket.

Kiz, that sounds truly epic!

I LOVE Lizard Ridge--might knit it someday--that's A LOT of Kureyon, but that is one of the most beautiful knitting patterns ever.

The Knitty article is just such an obvious labor of love, so deeply researched, and the photos are gorgeous...

Aw, I don't have an epic project right now. I had to go look up everyones' patterns to remind myself. I love Lizard Ridge, I had forgotten about that!

I'm about two thirds done with the blanket that I'm making for my daughter's baby, due in December.

It is a Moderne Baby Blanket. Well, it started off that way but I misunderstood the directions so it is now a hybrid Moderne/baby sized regular Log Cabin blanket. I'm really happy with it, but it is taking much longer than I had anticipated.

I forgot that I only have opportunity to knit for between half an hour and 3 hours (if I'm very lucky) each day, when my baby takes a nap.

I can see the home stretch though, but now I've run into another problem- I can't find the last skein that I need to obtain, of a specific color of Cascade 220. I have to buy it locally as I don't have a credit card or any way to get money into my Paypal, and nobody has it or will order it for me because I only want ONE skein. So I have about 3 more days to go until this blanket comes to a screeching halt with only 3 blocks until it's done.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I guess I'll have to use a different color for the two blocks that need that color. It will interfere with my plan though
