Teeth grinding and toothpaste

My 14 month old ds is a tooth grinder. It's actually more like teeth scraping, as he kinda scrapes his top and bottom teeth back and forth over top of one another. It's like finger nails on a chalk board!!! Aaaa! Firstly, it's not actually harmful, no? And, more importantly, is there a way to get him to stop? We've tried EVERYTHING we can find.

Also, OT, can anyone recommend a good 'toothpaste' for a 14 month old? Not actual toothpaste per se, just something that I can use to clean his teeth w/o fluoride or anything that foams...is there something I can make myself that works and tastes good?
