numo felting question..

I want to try out nuno felting. Ideally it will work perfectly and I will make scarves as Christmas presents for only my most loved recipients.

My reference is the Living Crafts project from the summer issue- where they used a silk chiffon scarf. Can I use a thicker silk scarf? Perhaps a SIlk Charmeause scarf? As long as it is all silk it shouldn't matter right? I was also thinking about a silk/wool scarf- which should really really work well right?

I just think that a heavier weight scarf would get alot more use here in Iowa than the sheer gauzy albeit beautiful chiffon scarves.

Also- I am assuming I can dye the scarf myself before I felt on it- that shouldn't affect the felting ability right?

Thanks!

Dyeing won't affect the feltability. Thinking off the top of my head, if you were going to use the heavier-weight silk it might be worth lightly needle-felting the wool to the wool on the other side of the silk to hold it in place whilst you get started.

That won't tear up the silk? Probably should go with a finer gauge needle thought right?

Oh man- this is getting fun dreaming about doing this!

I think you're going to need to do a swatch or two, to be honest
