hey mama's i was not raised in the US so i dont understand the total education system out here. i am in northern california.

my daugh starts first grade next month.

and i have found her true passion has been the performance arts. she has true natural talent in music and dance (i have been told this many many times by professionals since she was a year old) and she LOVES the stage.

and so i am doing research on how to incorporate that along with schools.

i just checked online and i find in my area most of the performing arts schools are high schools.

so my question is are there no performing arts school for elementary level? or would that be an area specific thing.

or is that too much to ask with star testing and all that. so they have to focus on education?!!!!

they have private what they define as performance schools which really are just two hours once a week kinda thing. and there is no way i can afford the tuition.

does something like what i want exist in the elementary level? a public or private elementary school that also has dance and music in their curriculum (serious music and dance training)? and i dont mean piano lessons or band after school.

It's an area specific thing. Some places have performing schools that start young, but most do start in high school. Your best bet to nurture your daughters love of the arts would be to get her into some classes outside of school.

have you looked into performing arts companies? I was in one in high school (dance) and ours was from 5yo-18yo, it was awesome! though you had to commit to a certain amount of classes per week (like 10 in at least 3 genres!) and the older members were expected to teach at some point if able and the younger ones fundraise to raise $ for expenses. (it was extremely expensive!)

: My dd is 8 and loves the arts. She does attend an elementary that has alot of the arts infused in their curriculum. There is also a theater company in my town that introduces children to the theater. I do plan to take her to the dinner theater we have here in town as well. SHe has done some things at our local museum as well. Also you may check your local library to see if there are any programs in our area.
